Job summary

Geosyntec Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Remediation Engineer or Geologist to join our Michigan offices in Ann Arbor, Detroit, or Grand Rapids.

The role focuses on growing our contaminated site assessment and remediation practices across projects involving design, construction, and regulatory coordination. Requirements include a bachelor’s in engineering or geology, 5+ years in environmental consulting, field experience, and willingness to travel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, geology or related field (required).
  • Advanced degree in the same (preferred).
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification (preferred).
  • 5+ years environmental consulting experience (required).
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary project teams (required).
  • Proven leadership and client development experience (required).
  • Willingness to travel and perform field work (required).
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Lead business development, client acquisition and proposal execution.
  • Plan and manage investigations and remediation projects, budgets, and schedules.
  • Lead and mentor multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Conduct fieldwork including sampling, oversight and construction.
  • Prepare technical reports and communicate with clients and regulators.
  • Publish and present at industry conferences to broaden reputation.
  • Support lead generation and staff development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Business development; including bringing in new clients and obtaining repeat business from existing clients, leading proposal preparation, and developing and implementing a business development plan;
  • Task and project management, including planning and implementing investigation and remediation projects, budgeting and budget management, adherence to schedule, quality, client satisfaction, and profitability;
  • Participation and leadership in practice-oriented teams specializing in high-growth markets, such as PFAS and vapor intrusion;
  • Management and mentoring of junior staff and managing subcontractors;
  • Work plan development, data evaluation, and report writing;
  • Data analysis, including preparing maps and figures using GIS/Environmental Visualization Software (EVS) applications, and database management;
  • Prepare technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals;
  • Review and manage written document production;
  • Prepare for and participate in meetings with clients, regulatory personnel, and other parties;
  • Conduct fieldwork including multi-media environmental sampling, sediment sampling and characterization, drilling oversight, contractor oversight, and remediation system operations, maintenance, and construction;
  • Direct multi-disciplinary project teams;
  • Task and project-level responsibility for scoping, performing, managing and delivering multiple concurrent project assignments;
  • Consistent with our sell-manage-do business model, play a role supporting lead generation, business development, staff development, and mentoring; and
  • Help broaden our reputation via publishing and visibility at prominent industry conferences.
Education and Licensure
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, geology or related field. (required)
  • Advanced degree in the same. (preferred)
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification, if applicable. (preferred)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
  • At least 5 years of environmental consulting experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary project teams. (required)
  • Demonstrated success in the development and management of clients. (required)
  • Proven leadership skills. (required)
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required)
  • Regional visibility through involvement in professional associations or trade organizations. (preferred)
  • Ability to conduct field work and overnight travel. (required)
  • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
