Job summary

Woodard & Curran is seeking a staff-level engineer to support and manage remediation projects across the firm's geography. You will join a multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality remediation and consulting services to industrial, municipal and commercial clients.

The role emphasizes design, field leadership, and collaboration with project managers and senior staff, with opportunities for growth, client interaction, and knowledge-sharing in a flexible hybrid environment in Middletown, CT.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited program. Master’s degree desirable.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer-In-Training (EIT) is strongly preferred.
  • Strong commitment to health, safety, and safe work practices mandatory.
  • Experience developing project scopes, cost estimates, and technical proposals.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement remediation projects (in situ and ex situ) and monitor performance.
  • Lead and support field activities for pre-design investigations.
  • Evaluate test results to support team decisions on remedy selection and design.
  • Develop remedial designs including construction drawings, cost estimates, and specifications.
  • Manage subcontractors and oversee remediation construction activities.
  • Prepare technical reports compliant with environmental regulations.

Who are we looking for?

Woodard & Curran has an opportunity for a staff-level engineer who can support and manage a diverse range of challenging and engaging remediation projects. The selected candidate will be a key contributor to an integrated and multi-disciplinary team that provides high-quality remediation and consulting services to our industrial, commercial, and municipal clients. The selected candidate will report directly to Project Managers and senior level staff in our national Environmental Remediation Practice and work directly with a diverse and talented group of engineers and scientists. The ideal candidate is a staff-level engineer with strong technical experience delivering high-quality remediation and consulting services to projects located across the firm’s geography and core markets. The successful candidate will be an energetic, motivated, growth-oriented professional who can work independently and lead multi-disciplined project teams.


To name a few, these projects may include:


  • Designing and implementing in situ and ex situ remediation technologies and performance monitoring programs.

  • Leading and supporting field activities for pre-design investigations to advance remediation programs at complex remediation sites.

  • Evaluating treatability test and field pilot study results to support teams in selecting, designing, and constructing full-scale remediation activities.

  • Designing, optimizing, and supporting the operations and performance of groundwater pump-and-treat and other remediation systems.



  • Conducting corrective measures/feasibility studies

  • Developing detailed remedial designs including preparation of construction drawings, technical plans, engineering cost estimates, and specifications

  • Evaluating remediation construction bids

  • Estimating costs and developing and managing the scope, schedule, and budget for various project tasks

  • Designing in situ and ex situ soil, sediment, and groundwater remedies

  • Preparing technical reports in compliance with applicable environmental regulations

  • Selecting, coordinating, and managing subcontractors

  • Evaluating and mitigating vapor intrusion sites

  • Managing and overseeing remedial constructionactivities

  • Managing and evaluating environmental data

  • Remediating and/or redeveloping Brownfields sites

  • Collaborating with project staff, clients, and regulatory agencies



  • 2-5 years of professional experience with an environmental/engineering consulting firm.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited program.Master’s degree desirable.

  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer-In-Training (EIT) is strongly preferred.

  • Strong commitment to health, safety, and safe work practices mandatory.

  • Demonstrated experience developing project scopes, cost estimates, and technical proposals, as well as implementing construction and remediation programs.

  • Technical experience in the design and implementation of site remediation programs, including feasibility evaluations, remedy selection and optimization, design, operation, and lifecycle management of remedial treatment systems, in situ and ex situ treatment system technologies, site civil engineering and stormwater management design, and local/state/federal permitting.

  • Experience managing remediation contractors and construction activities in the field.

  • Excellent technical writing, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

  • Ability to mentor, coach, and develop junior staff.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel. Experience with ArcGIS, AutoCAD, stormwater modeling software, contaminant fate and transport modeling software, Python, and/or database software is preferred.

  • A desire and drive to deliver innovative and effective services and to grow professionally and personally in an employee-focused, supportive work environment.

  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER and 10-hour OSHA Construction training is a plus.
