Job summary

Pfeiffer University invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Professor of Religion to advance teaching, advising, mentoring, scholarship, and service on the Misenheimer campus. The role includes coordinating the Religion and Practical Theology program and fostering vocations and community-engaged learning.

The 9‑month, full-time position starts August 2027. Teaching will span Religion, Interdisciplinary Studies, Core/Pathways, and possibly Humanities, with duties in mentorship and campus

Qualifications

• PhD (ABO considered) in Theology, Biblical Studies, Church History, Religion and Literature, etc.
• Preferred: 18 graduate hours in History, Church History, Philosophy or related field.
• Active layperson in a local United Methodist Church and/or clergy in full connection with a United Methodist conference preferred.
• Outstanding candidates with active standing in another denomination may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Teach up to 26 IUs during the academic year. Courses include Religion and Practical Theology, Core/Pathways, Interdisciplinary Studies.
• May teach courses in Humanities program depending on qualifications.
• Advise and mentor students.
• Participate in shared governance and committees.
• Recruit new students to the undergraduate major in Religion and Practical Theology.
• Collaborate with campus ministries.

Education
