Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Malvern, PA is seeking an experienced Relief Emergency Veterinary Technician. This role involves anesthesia management, triage of emergencies, and diagnostic imaging to support critically ill or injured pets.

Qualifications

• Proficient in anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery.
• Triage emergency cases and monitor vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Proficient in digital radiography and proper patient positioning.
• Strong understanding of normal vital sign ranges and CPR readiness.
• Ability to perform phlebotomy and place intravenous catheters.
• Ability to place feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Ability to calculate medical math including CRIs and administer medications.
• Mentor and train co-workers; strong client communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia using anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases on arrival and obtain vitals.
• Perform digital radiography with proper technique and positioning.
• Interprete vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Perform phlebotomy and place IV catheters.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Mentor and train other staff; address client concerns with empathy.

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Malvern, PA is hiring an experienced Relief Veterinary Technician

Pay: $21.00 - $43.00 / hour

This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through our leveling system.

** Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience**

We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends.

*Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum.

For example:

• Mon - Fri: 6pm to 8am = $3.50 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = $5.00 Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = $3.50 Shift Differential

As a Relief Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
