Foothills Animal Shelter in Golden, CO seeks a Relief Veterinary Technician to support the veterinary team during staff vacations and time off. You will assist with surgical procedures, treatments, and post-operative care for shelter animals, including vaccine clinics and health evaluations.

The role requires CVT certification with surgical experience and comfort working in a high-volume spay/neuter setting. Preference given to HQHVSN and Fear Free certified candidates.

Qualifications

• Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) with three years of surgical experience.
• Experience in an animal welfare environment preferred.
• Experience in HQHVSN (High Quality High Volume Spay/Neuter) preferred.
• Fear Free Shelter certified or become Fear Free certified within 60 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinary team with surgical procedures, treatments, and follow-up care for shelter animals.
• Perform pre-surgical duties, prepare for anesthesia, and monitor during procedures.
• Operate radiology equipment and perform dental cleanings and radiographs.
• Maintain surgical records, data entry, and controlled drug logs with accuracy.
• Administer vaccines and provide daily health evaluations and treatments as prescribed.

The Relief Veterinary Technician will assist the veterinary team with surgical procedures, treatments, and follow-up care for shelter animals and will also participate in public vaccine clinics. **RESPONSIBILITIES Surgery*** Performs pre-surgical duties, conducts pre-surgical physical exams on patients, and alerts veterinarian to any concerns.* Calculates, administers and records pre-anesthetic drugs.
