Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Des Moines, IA is seeking a skilled Relief Veterinary Technician to join our team!

As a Veterinary Technician, you will:

1. Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
2. Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital, including obtaining vitals such as temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure.
3. Perform digital radiography using proper technique, including correct patient positioning.
4. Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation.
5. Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs, alerting Veterinarian to changes and issues.
6. Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
7. Calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) accurately and administer medications via appropriate routes and durations.
8. Perform phlebotomy and place intravenous catheters in peripheral vessels proficiently.
9. Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
10. Mentor and train other co-workers with patience and empathy to address client concerns.
