BluePearl Pet Hospital in Charlestown, MA is seeking a skilled Relief Veterinary Technician to join our Emergency & Critical Care team. The role involves inducing, monitoring and recovering anesthesia, triaging emergencies, and performing radiography and critical patient monitoring.

We offer competitive hourly pay ($24.50–$49.00) with shift differentials for nights and weekends, and opportunities for advancement through our competency assessment tool.

Qualifications

• Experience in emergency veterinary care.

• Proficiency with phlebotomy and placing IV catheters.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients.
• Triage emergency cases and monitor vitals and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography with proper technique and positioning.
• Understand normal ranges for vitals and respond to changes.
• Obtain and interpret vital signs and alert Veterinarian when needed.
• Identify patients at risk and initiate CPR when required.
• Carry out medical calculations and administer medications correctly.
• Place and maintain IV access and venous catheters.
• Assist with feeding tube and central line placement as needed.
• Mentor and train other team members.
• Provide compassionate client support and counseling.

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Charlestown, MA is seeking a skilled Relief Veterinary Technician to join our Emergency & Critical Care team.

Pay: $24.50 - $49.00 / hour

This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool. Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience.

competitive shift differentials for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends. Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum. For example:

• Mon – Fri: 6pm to 8am = +$4.00 Shift Differential




• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = +$4.00 Shift Differential




• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = +$5.50 Shift Differential

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.




• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.




• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.




• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.




• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.




• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.




• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.




• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.




• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.




• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.




• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
