Job summary

Harris County Department of Education – HIGHPOINT EAST in Houston seeks a Relief Teacher to provide coverage and engaging learning activities for students. Starting immediately, the substitute will support classroom instruction and maintain a safe, orderly environment.

The position is a substitute role with pay of $200 per day and requires citizenship/residency or work visa. Applicants must have a qualifying degree and, ideally, teacher certification or related education experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with teacher certification (preferred).
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Education, the humanities, or in fields focusing upon subjects within the core curriculum; or
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and previous experience in promoting social, educational, or supportive services for school aged children
• Completion of HCDE’s Substitute Orientation program

Responsibilities

• Comply with all state and federal laws, department and campus policies and procedures.
• Maintain and respect confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
• Maintain discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school and county policies.
• Ensure adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students.
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate.
• Implement lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate.
• Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
• Assist in managing the behavior of students and crisis intervention, including restraining disruptive or dangerous physical behaviors.
