Job summary

Interfor is seeking a Relief Production Supervisor in Thomaston, GA, to provide supervisory coverage across departments and shifts, supporting safety, production, quality targets, and operational performance.

The role offers exposure to sawmill, planer, kilns, and maintenance activities, with opportunities to lead training and development while building leadership capabilities for future supervisory roles. A strong work ethic and flexibility are essential.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Forestry, Wood Products, Engineering Technology, Business, Operations Management, or related field.
  • Previous manufacturing, industrial, forestry, or wood products experience is an asset.
  • Previous leadership experience, formal or informal, is considered an asset.
  • Ability and willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, and provide coverage across departments as required.
  • Demonstrated interest in pursuing a long-term leadership career within Interfor.
  • Strong interest in leadership and operational management.
  • Desire to build a career in sawmill operations with progression into supervisory and management roles.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and work effectively in different departments and on varying shifts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead by example and influence others positively.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervisory coverage across departments, shifts, and operating areas as required.
  • Support production, maintenance, quality, and operational teams in meeting safety, production, recovery, and quality targets.
  • Build working knowledge of all major manufacturing processes, equipment, and workflows throughout the sawmill and planer operations.
  • Assist with employee training, coaching, and development.
  • Develop an understanding of scheduling, workforce planning, and shift operations.
  • Partner with operational leaders to identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Participate in special projects and operational initiatives that support mill performance.
  • Gain experience in: Sawmill operations, Trimmer, sorter, and stacker operations, Planer mill operations, Maintenance planning and execution, Quality control and optimization, Boilers and kilns, Environmental, health, and safety programs, Leadership and employee development.

Education

Relief Production Supervisor,Thomaston, Georgia

When you join our team as a Relief Production Supervisor, you will be coming into a developmental leadership role designed for individualswho are interested in building a long-term career in sawmill operations andleadership. Reporting to the Production Manager, the successful candidate willserve as a utility leader, providing support and shift coverage across multipledepartments and operating areas within the mill.
Thisposition offers hands-on exposure to all various aspects of the operationsincluding the sawmill, planer, kilns, quality control, maintenance, and safety,while developing the leadership, technical, and operational skills required forfuture supervisory opportunities. The Relief Supervisor will work a variety ofshifts and departments as business needs require, gaining valuable experienceleading teams, supporting operational performance, and driving continuousimprovement initiatives.
