Job summary

Oregon Humane is seeking a Relief Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) to join the Shelter Medicine team at our Portland Campus. You will assist veterinarians with exams, triage, and surgical support in a high-volume veterinary clinic, ensuring safety and compassionate care for diverse species.

You will also maintain accurate medical records, administer medications, perform routine lab work, and engage with the public and shelter staff to support our mission of compassionate animal welfare.

Qualifications

• Certified Veterinary Technician license required (Oregon).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Able to communicate with a diverse population professionally.
• Able to work on a high-performing team in a collaborative manner.
• Maintain confidentiality and discretion in department activities.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians with exams and determine illness or injury.
• Handle animals safely and compassionately of varying species and sizes.
• Follow infectious disease protocols and quarantine as needed.
• Record TPR, dress wounds, apply splints and other devices.
• Administer meds, fluids and blood products per vet orders.
• Perform lab procedures, collect urine, draw blood, and skin scrapings.
• Place catheters and manage anesthesia during surgery.
• Capture radiographs and assist with surgical procedures.
• Enter medical notes per established protocols.
• Provide client medical consultations and perform euthanasia when required.
• Maintain inventory and logs for drugs and supplies.
