Job summary

Current Technology seeks a hands-on Laboratory Technician to support LED testing and product development at our Hendersonville, NC facility. You will work with a global engineering team to run FCC tests, reliability tests, and safety evaluations, documenting results for external customers.

The role requires an Associates degree in Electronic Engineering Technology or similar, 2+ years’ experience, and proficiency with oscilloscopes, DAS, Windows, and Office.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Electronic Engineering Technology or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in similar positions.
  • Experience using digital oscilloscopes and data acquisition systems.
  • Proficient with Windows OS and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with data acquisition systems (DAS).

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate radiated and conducted testing equipment.
  • Own the FCC testing process from sample submission to report.
  • Perform driver reliability testing and maintain logs.
  • Support safety testing per CSA/UL/FCC.
  • Read electrical and mechanical drawings and troubleshoot equipment.

Job description

This position supports Current Technology’s product development efforts as a member of the laboratory team. The laboratory team is involved in the product development process from testing and qualifying LED packages to various performance and safety testing of finished lighting products and controls. The team also provides engineering support with building prototypes, designing new tests, troubleshooting field returns and failures and writing reports for communication to external customers.

Team members work closely with Current’s global engineering team that includes engineers from various US locations, Canada, Mexico and China.

This is a on-site position at our Hendersonville, NC facility.

Essential Functions:
FCC Testing
  • Set-up, calibrate and operate radiated and conducted testing equipment and variety of other testing systems
  • Conduct measurements and assist others as needed on FCC testing equipment
  • Own the entire FCC testing process from sample submission to report generation
  • Evaluate samples and assist in electrical test set‑ups for engineers
  • Provide electrical, electronic and mechanical troubleshooting and maintenance for FCC testing (radiated and conducted) and other lamp testing equipment
  • Enter/upload data electronically and manage various computer upload/communication problems
  • Maintain the equipment and maintenance logs of measurement systems
Driver Reliability
  • Set-up, calibrate and operate a variety of driver reliability chambers and related equipment
  • Create test plans, monitor test status, and move samples in and out of test chambers
  • Perform specialized LED driver performance tests
  • Evaluate samples and assist in electrical test set‑ups for engineers
  • Provide electrical, electronic and mechanical troubleshooting and maintenance for testing equipment
  • Maintain the equipment and maintenance logs of measurement systems
  • Perform various aspects of 3rd party (CSA,UL, FCC) safety testing
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Perform various aspects of 3rd party (CSA,UL) safety testing
  • Have a part in identifying and implementing continuous improvement in all testing systems
  • Support the upgrade of FCC testing (radiated and conducted) and other testing equipment
  • Hands-on implementation of projects aimed at improving measurement productivity and quality
  • Ability to read and understand electrical and mechanical drawings
  • Knowledge of fundamental electrical and electronic concepts, practices and procedures applied to testing and measurement equipment, operation, and troubleshooting
  • Ability to troubleshooting and repair electronics equipment or instrumentation including controls
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to follow verbal and written work instructions
  • Must be well‑organized and excellent with detail
  • Must be able to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Strong problem‑solving skills
Qualifications:
Required
  • Associates degree in Electronic Engineering Technology or other similar degree
  • 2+ years of experience in similarly situated positions
  • Knowledge of fundamental electrical and electronic concepts, practices and procedures applied to testing and measurement equipment, operation, and troubleshooting
  • Must have experience in application and use of electronic meters including digital oscilloscopes, data acquisition systems, PC computers
  • Must have experience with Windows OS & Microsoft Office products
  • Have experience working with Data Acquisition Systems
Preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering Technology or other similar degree.
  • Have experience with Net Working, USB, GPIB, WIFI, LAN, and Bar Coding
