Job summary

CMC invites motivated students to join a hands-on internship across our recycling centers, fabrication plants, and facilities. You’ll gain real-world engineering exposure, work on improvement projects, and collaborate with multiple departments to understand how steel products are made and applied.

You’ll be mentored by industry professionals, learn ISO procedures, and develop skills in AutoCAD/SolidWorks while supporting safety initiatives and continuous improvement efforts at CMC.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in Industrial Engineering or Operations Management program (Junior/Senior preferred).
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Interest in Industrial Engineering Technologies and manufacturing environments.

Responsibilities

• Cross-train through departments to learn hands-on engineering techs.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities via process, quality, and safety projects.
• Collaborate with continuous improvement teams on initiatives.
• Prepare a presentation/report on an improvement project at internship end.
• Troubleshoot work-related problems using knowledge and teamwork.
• Participate in CMC Safety Programs and uphold Safety Culture.

What You'll Do

• Cross-train through the department to learn hands-on skills related to industrial/engineering technologies
• Identify, evaluate, and recommend cost saving opportunities by identifying process, quality and safety related improvement projects
• Work closely with the continuous improvement team to work on process improvement initiatives & projects
• Presentation/Report on an improvement project at the end of internship
• Ability to troubleshoot work related problems using job knowledge, experience, and by communicating with others
• Participate in the CMC Safety Programs and proactively uphold the CMC Safety Culture

What You'll Need

• Must possess a strong interest in Industrial Engineering Technologies and be enrolled at Junior/Senior level education
• Able to work a flexible schedule to include 40 hour work weeks during summer (June-August)
• Able to work independently, take initiative and drive for results with minimal supervision
• Knowledge of processes in Microsoft windows, engineering software such as Auto CAD and Solid Works
• Ability to understand and apply ISO work instructions and standard operating practices and procedures
• Ability to work with exposure to extreme temperatures, chemicals, dust fumes and mists, uneven surfaces, loud noise, elevated work areas, and confined spaces
• Push and pull up to 90 lbs and carry 50 lbs
• Strong communication skills required. Must read, speak and understand English language in verbal and written communication
• Previous internship experiences preferred

Your Education

• Currently enrolled in an Industrial Engineering or Operations Management program. (Junior/Senior level preferred).
• High School Diploma or GED required
