Job summary

Commercial Metals invites motivated students pursuing an Industrial Engineering degree to join our internship program in Martinsburg, WV. You will gain hands-on experience across recycling, fabrication, manufacturing, steel mills and offices, under experienced mentors.

Expect to cross-train in multiple departments, complete time-and-motion studies, and propose process improvements. The role emphasizes collaboration, initiative, and potential pathways to full-time employment upon graduation.

Qualifications

• Pursuing an Industrial Engineering degree with junior or senior standing.
• Strong quantitative and analytical capabilities are required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Cross-train through departments to learn hands-on skills in industrial/engineering tech.
• Complete and analyze time and motion studies.
• Document and report changes for process improvements.
• Collaborate with leadership to sustain processes and improvements.
• Create, review and update process flow layouts.
• Participate in projects with the CMC team to drive improvements.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities by addressing process, quality, and safety.

What You'll Do

• Cross-train through the department to learn hands-on skills related to industrial/engineering technologies
• Complete & Analyze time and motion studies
• Document and report/suggest changes
• Work with leadership on ways to improve & sustain processes
• Create/Review/Update existing process flow layouts
• Work closely with other on the CMC Team work on process improvement initiatives & projects
• Identify, evaluate, and recommend cost saving opportunities by identifying process, quality and safety related improvement projects
• Presentation/Report on an improvement project at the end of internship

What You'll Need

• Excellent quantitative and analytical skills with an aptitude of problem solving
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to work in teams and to effectively interact with employees at all levels of the organization
• Able to work independently, take initiative and drive for results with minimal supervision
• Proficient in MS Office programs - Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Visio
• Ability to interact with coworkers and customers in a positive manner, follow directions and work rules and accept constructive feedback required
• Must be able to bend, stoop, push, pull, lift, kneel, squat, crawl and reach
• Able to work a flexible schedule to include 40 hour work weeks appropriate semesters
• Use good decision making and problem solving skills to understand and meet customer expectations
• Work in varying temperature and weather conditions
• Ability to manipulate and utilize Working Drawings
• Able to work in a team environment
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Metallurgical or related field

Your Education

• Currently pursuing an Industrial Engineering degree (Metallurgical, Mechanical, Material Sciences, or Electrical). Junior or Senior level preferred
