About the Role

At MiniMed, we build technology that millions of people living with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes trust with their health every single day. As a Reliability Engineer II on our team, your work will be at the heart of ensuring that technology is safe, reliable, and ready for the real world. In this hands‑on and highly collaborative role, you will develop and execute test strategies and methods that put our insulin therapy systems through their paces — simulating real‑world home environments to validate that our products perform flawlessly when patients need them most. From applying statistical techniques like DOE, hypothesis testing, and capability analysis to operating a broad spectrum of lab equipment including environmental chambers, signal generators, and Instrons — your technical contributions will directly influence product safety and design quality. You will collaborate closely with Electrical Engineering, Software R&D, Systems Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering to develop robust test methods, drive root cause analysis, and contribute to risk management deliverables that protect patients. Your technical documentation — from test protocols and engineering reports to SOPs and lab notebooks — will serve as the foundation for sound engineering decisions. If you are a curious, detail‑driven engineer who thrives in a hands‑on lab environment and wants their work to truly mean something — this is the role for you.

Responsibilities
  • Develop test strategies activities associated with a family of insulin therapy systems used by individuals to effectively manage Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.
  • Work within the broader test team to develop consistent test strategies and methods across different portions of product testing.
  • Develop test methods to exercise products against simulated use environments, ensuring that products will continue to work safely when used in various home environments.
  • Apply statistical techniques such as hypothesis testing, DOE, regression, and capability analysis to support test method validation, design characterization, root‑cause analysis, and verification and reliability demonstration activities.
  • Operate a broad spectrum of lab equipment, such as environmental chambers, smart scopes, signal generators, Instrons.
  • Work with key external functions (Electrical Engineering, Software R&D, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering) to develop robust test methods, root‑cause issues in products and test methods, and improve product design.
  • Contribute to risk management deliverables like failure modes effects analysis (dFMEA/pFMEA) and identify potential patient hazards.
Must Have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline with 2+ years of relevant experience; or advanced degree with 0+ years of relevant experience.
  • Direct experience with technical documentation including engineering reports, standard operating procedures, test protocols, and laboratory/engineering notebooks.
Nice to Have:
  • Familiarity with quality system requirements, design controls, and good manufacturing practices in a regulated medical device or cGMP environment.
  • Demonstrated foundational knowledge for fixture design and prototyping.
  • Familiarity with reliability and design for reliability.
  • Familiarity with root cause analysis tools (5‑Why, Fishbone, Fault Tree).
  • Experience with data acquisition software such as NI LabVIEW.
  • Experience with fixture design and 3D modeling tools such as SolidWorks.
  • Demonstrate exceptional communication and technical writing skills while collaborating with large cross‑functional teams (R&D, Ops, Regulatory, Quality).
  • Working knowledge of electromechanical devices, battery‑powered devices, and/or electrochemical reactions.
  • Ability to multi‑task, prioritize, meet/exceed deadlines and holds themselves, and others accountable.
  • Self‑starter with strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize, and a sharp focus on quality and customer experience.
