Job summary

Smurfit WestRock in New York operates a manufacturing facility seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead electrical reliability initiatives. You will be the SME for design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of critical electrical systems and equipment, from power distribution to HV motors, with emphasis on safety and uptime.

You will collaborate with maintenance teams and production leadership, support outages, develop PM programs, RCA investigations, and stay current with NEC/NFPA

Qualifications

• Experience in electrical engineering in a manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of safe electrical work practices and industry codes.
• Knowledge of three phase electrical systems.
• Knowledge of AC and DC motors and motor controls and electrical protections schemes.
• Knowledge of instrumentation, PLCs, and controls.
• Experience using Microsoft Office and CMMS systems like SAP, Passport, JDE.
• Experience in the Pulp and Paper Industry.
• Management or project leadership in an industrial setting.
• 5+ years in electrical engineering in manufacturing.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Knowledge of relay coordination, arc flash hazard and short circuit analysis.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and resolve electrical reliability issues within the facility.
• Coordinate with maintenance teams, mill leadership, and EMS to identify safety and reliability opportunities.
• Assist in outages and shutdown execution.
• Provide SME for design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment.
• Lead RCA efforts and implement recommendations with follow-ups.
• Develop PMs and PM/PDm strategies for electrical equipment.
• Assist outage planning and develop electrical work scopes and execution plans.
• Design and implement long-term improvements for electrical reliability.
• Participate in weekend call support on a rotating basis.
• Stay current on NEC/NFPA 70E and related standards.
• Lead electrical cold mill outage team.

How You Will Impact WestRock

• Subject Matter Expert, SME for the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of critical Electrical Systems and Equipment. Electrical Equipment including Power Generation and distribution, Transformers, Switchgear, Protection Relays, Electrical Switching Low and high voltage motors and starters, UPS and battery charger systems, Variable Frequency Drives/soft Starters, Electrical Actuators, grounding systems, Lighting, Cathodic Protections, Portable Electrical Equipment etc.
• Maintain close working interaction with the maintenance Team (Mechanical and Electrical) along with other stakeholders such as Mill Leadership, Production, Corporate Reliability Group (EMS), Key 3rd party contractors (OEM’s consultants, etc.) and SME within Smurfit WestRock to identify and resolve safety and reliability opportunities of the electrical assets at the mill.
• Provide technical expertise to improve electrical equipment reliability by evaluating and /or redesigning equipment and systems. Work to improve the integrity and reliability of all low, medium, and high voltage electrical installations, systems, and Equipment for the facility. This includes but not limited to reliability improvements by developing engineering solutions to repetitive failures and other issues that adversely affect plant equipment operations, project management and trouble -shooting roles
• Support training Electrical programs for maintenance and operations personnel for safe and reliable operation and maintenance of lant power distribution systems
• Lead or support RCA efforts in areas of expertise and report outs. Compiling recommendations and implementation/close-out and follow – ups
• Support development and optimization of PMs for all the electrical equipment while ensuring the reliability and availability of electrical equipment throughout the facility through the effective PM and PDM strategies to prevent and resolve equipment failures
• Assist outage planning and developing electrical work scopes and execution plans
• Design and implement long-term continuous improvement projects and systems to improve electrical reliability
• Participate in weekend call support on a rotating basis.
• Remain current on electrical standards, techniques, and practices, and thorough understanding of electrical standards (NEC,NFPA, 70E etc.)
• Experience with synchronous motor maintenance and troubleshooting
• Lead electrical cold mill outage team, including temporary power setup and execution

What You Need To Succeed

• Experience in electrical engineering in a manufacturing environment
• Knowledge of safe electrical work practices and understanding of industry codes
• Knowledge and experience with three phase electrical systems
• Knowledge of Ac and DC electric motors and motor controls and electrical protections schemes
• Knowledge of instrumentation, PLC’s, and controls
• Experience using Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook as well as familiar with CMMS systems like (SAP, Passport, JDE etc.)
• Experience in the Pulp and Paper Industry
• Management or project leadership experience in an industrial, manufacturing/production facility
• 5 years or more experience in electrical engineering in manufacturing environment
• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering
• Knowledge of relay coordination, arc flash hazard and short circuit analysis
