Job summary

Ember Grey in Geneseo, New York is seeking an experienced Reliability Engineer to improve plant reliability, asset utilization and equipment performance at a chemical manufacturing facility.

You will work with Maintenance, Operations and Engineering to develop reliability strategies, implement PdM/PM programs and support capital projects while upholding HESQ requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Minimum 5 years of manufacturing experience in maintenance, reliability, or mechanical engineering.
  • Experience in chemical, petrochemical, or process manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical integrity principles and maintenance strategies.
  • Experience with RCFA, FMEA, Weibull, statistical analysis, and DMAIC.

  • Lead the Mechanical Integrity Program for vessels, tanks, piping and high‑energy equipment.

  • Maintain equipment records and SAP BOMs, and manage critical spares.

Job description

Seeking an experienced Reliability Engineer to join a leading specialty chemicals organization supporting one of its key manufacturing facilities in New York.

This is a technical reliability role responsible for improving plant reliability, asset utilization, mechanical integrity, and equipment performance across a chemical manufacturing facility. The successful candidate will work closely with Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, HESQ, and other site functions to develop reliability strategies, implement predictive and preventive maintenance programs, improve equipment performance, and support capital projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical expertise in reliability engineering and develop strategies to improve plant reliability, equipment performance, and asset utilization.
  • Manage and maintain the site's Mechanical Integrity Program covering pressure vessels, storage tanks, piping, pressure relief devices, emergency shutdown systems, controls, and high-energy equipment.
  • Conduct reliability studies on existing equipment and recommend improvements to equipment strategies, maintenance philosophies, and reliability best practices.
  • Develop and implement Predictive Maintenance (PdM) and Preventive Maintenance (PM) programs to identify developing equipment failures and abnormal operating conditions.
  • Develop and maintain reliability procedures, equipment records, and reliability performance reports.
  • Maintain accurate equipment records and SAP Bill of Materials (BOMs), including identification of critical spare parts.
  • Provide technical expertise for job plan development, equipment critical path analysis, job scopes, troubleshooting, and equipment failure diagnosis.
  • Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) investigations and establish appropriate reliability improvement actions using DMAIC and other reliability methodologies.
  • Develop and implement corrective action plans to improve equipment reliability and prevent recurring failures.
  • Define and approve equipment repairs, including evaluating repair contractors and inspecting completed repair work.
  • Lead assigned capital projects, including project budgets, feasibility studies, cost estimates, layouts, engineering evaluations, and bid packages.
  • Drive continuous improvement of plant mechanical integrity practices, procedures, and reliability programs.
  • Lead site energy efficiency initiatives as the Plant Energy Manager, identifying opportunities to reduce energy consumption and improve plant efficiency.
  • Participate in Management of Change (MOC) reviews and support site HESQ requirements and regulatory compliance.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and support reporting and investigation of safety, environmental, near‑miss, and incident events.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing experience in maintenance, reliability, or mechanical engineering.
  • Experience within a chemical, petrochemical, or other process manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical equipment reliability and maintenance strategies.
  • Experience developing and implementing preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Strong knowledge of Mechanical Integrity principles and applicable engineering standards.
  • Experience with reliability methodologies including RCFA, FMEA, Weibull analysis, statistical analysis, and DMAIC.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience working with SAP or similar computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Ability to manage projects, budgets, contractors, and technical documentation.
Preferred Experience
  • API certification preferred.
  • Experience with pressure vessels, storage tanks, piping, pressure relief devices, and other mechanical integrity assets.
  • Knowledge of ASME, API, ASTM, and other Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices.
  • Experience developing equipment criticality assessments and reliability strategies.
  • Experience with condition monitoring and predictive maintenance technologies.
  • Background supporting capital projects from initial feasibility through execution.
  • Experience performing contractor evaluations and overseeing equipment repairs.
  • Experience within a specialty chemical or continuous process manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with SAP equipment records, maintenance plans, and Bills of Materials.
