Reliability Engineer II – Planning Maintenance

Department: Reliability Engineering / Planning Maintenance

Position Overview

Our mining client is seeking a Reliability Engineer II – Planning Maintenance to support reliability, maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives at its Morenci, Arizona mining operation.

This position will work closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to improve equipment reliability, maintenance availability, safety, operational efficiency, cost control, quality, and environmental performance. The successful candidate will independently investigate engineering and reliability challenges, develop practical recommendations, coordinate projects, and support implementation of improvements across the site.

About the Morenci Operation

Morenci is an open-pit copper mining complex located approximately 50 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona, along U.S. Highway 191. The operation has been continuously operating since 1939 and includes:

• A crushed-ore leach pad and stacking system


• A low-grade run-of-mine (ROM) leaching system


• Three electrowinning (EW) tank houses producing copper cathode

Morenci is also a company town with access to outdoor recreation, parks, community amenities, healthcare facilities, fitness centers, childcare, and other services.

Key Responsibilities

• Review, investigate, and develop engineering recommendations for assigned reliability and maintenance projects.


• Apply reliability engineering principles, data analysis, and emerging technologies to improve equipment performance and site operations.


• Partner with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to identify and resolve equipment and process issues.


• Coordinate projects and improvement activities intended to increase equipment availability and improve key performance indicators.


• Support initiatives focused on:


• Safety


• Equipment reliability


• Maintenance effectiveness


• Operational efficiency

• Quality


• Prepare, review, and maintain accurate engineering and project documentation.


• Participate in small- to medium-scale construction, expansion, modification, and improvement projects.


• Coordinate and administer vendor contracts related to equipment and engineering services.


• Research and maintain working knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal regulations.


• Use analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate reliability issues and develop practical solutions.


• Perform other duties and engineering assignments as required.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must have one of the following:

• Bachelor's degree in a related engineering discipline and 3 years of related engineering experience, or


• Master's degree in a related engineering discipline and 2 years of related engineering experience.

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of probability and statistical analysis.


• Understanding of reliability engineering principles and practices.


• Ability to research and analyze complex information and draw sound conclusions.


• Ability to identify occupational hazards and maintain awareness of appropriate safety precautions.


• Strong understanding of safe work practices and hazard recognition.


• Effective written and verbal communication skills.


• Ability to work collaboratively with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, vendors, and other stakeholders.


• Ability to work independently and manage assigned engineering projects with limited supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering.


• Coursework or formal training in Reliability Engineering.


• SMRP or CMRP certification.


• Six Sigma experience or certification.


• Experience working in mining, heavy industry, manufacturing, processing, or other asset-intensive environments.


• Experience with maintenance planning, equipment reliability, condition monitoring, root-cause analysis, or continuous improvement.

Compensation

The estimated annual base salary range for this position is:

$87,500 – $115,000

Actual compensation will depend on experience, qualifications, skills, and other job-related factors. The position may also be eligible for discretionary and incentive compensation based on company and individual performance.
