Apple is seeking a Reliability Engineer in Cupertino, CA to develop and execute FMEA-driven test plans, perform Weibull analyses, and quantify field reliability. You will work with design and cross-functional teams to identify root causes, guide mitigations, and communicate findings through test reports and presentations.
Candidates should have a mechanical engineering degree and hands-on experience with reliability testing, CT/SEM/x-ray failure analysis, and data-driven risk assessment.
Cupertino, California, United States Hardware
Imagine what you can do here. Apple is a place where extraordinary people gather to do their lives best work. Together we create products and experiences people once couldn't have imagined, and now, can't imagine living without. It's the diversity of those people and their ideas that inspires the innovation that runs through everything we do.
APPLE INC has the following available in Cupertino, California and various unanticipated locations throughout the USA. Develop new reliability tests procedures and specifications by performing failure modes effects and analysis (FMEA) to identify design and process specific failures and their corresponding use cases, detection methods, and performance evaluation criteria. Design of experiments to characterize user behavior to inform test spec development. Analyze instrumented study data to quantify subjective user experience. Prepare concise and detailed test plans and analyzing test reports. Weibull statistical analysis of data to provide quantitative risk assessments of anticipated exposure in the field by considering stress-strength analysis, acceleration factors, user perception/behavior, and test-to-field correlation. Present tests, test results, and risk assessments in a confident and positive manner to the cross-functional and leadership teams. Research new technologies to understand unique failure mechanisms by driving quantification of subjective user perception such as using machine learning image processing techniques. Guide design and interact with diverse groups to improve product reliability. Investigate failures during reliability testing to determine root cause and drive mitigations. Guide failure analysis to determine root cause through familiarity with characterization techniques such as SEM, TEM, FTIR, CT, etc. Collaborate with design teams to develop mitigations for failures in Reliability testing by leveraging expertise in mechanical engineering/materials science to inform solution space and scope feasibility of fixes prior to implementation. 40 hours/week.
