Job summary

Apple Inc. is seeking a Hardware Reliability Engineer for its Vision Products in Cupertino, CA. You will lead cross‑functional teams to design reliability tests, analyze failures, and drive improvements across the product lifecycle.

You will develop new test methods, validate materials and components, and collaborate with design engineering to identify high‑risk failure modes early in development. This role requires strong communication and travel readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or an equivalent field.
• 3+ years of experience in a related field or industry.
• Understand the physics behind the mechanical & electrical properties of materials.
• Exposure to failure analysis techniques and root-cause analysis.
• Ability and willingness to travel internationally, up to 10 percent.

Description

As a System Reliability Engineer, you'll be responsible for identifying high-risk failure modes early in the design process and working closely with design engineering teams to reduce those risks. You'll create new reliability tests based on the physics of failure and anticipated user behavior, ensuring our systems meet the highest standards. You'll also develop and deliver critical test equipment and specifications, and collaborate with vendors to meet testing deadlines. Additionally, you'll support failure analysis efforts, offering design recommendations based on your evaluation of test data to drive continuous product improvements.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or an equivalent field
• 3+ years of experience in a related field or industry
• Understand the physics behind the mechanical & electrical properties of materials
• Have exposure to failure analysis techniques and the ability to use failure analysis methodology to derive a root cause of failure
• Ability and willingness to travel internationally, as needed (up to 10 percent)

Preferred Qualifications

• M.S. or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or an equivalent field
• Statistical experience such as Weibull, JMP, or familiarity with accelerated test models
• Solid understanding of Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Design of Experiments (DOE)
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Strong attention to details and curiosity of how technologies work
• Collaborative attitude and ability to work cross-functionally effectively
• A proactive, can-do attitude, with a passion for working alongside an amazing team and innovative products

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $150,400 and $277,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
