Job summary

Ascend Performance Materials is seeking a Fixed Equipment Reliability Engineer in the Alvin, TX area to establish reliability practices and lead major overhauls of critical fixed equipment. You will work with production to drive equipment performance improvements and support project engineering in select mechanical equipment decisions.

The role requires five years of experience, a mechanical engineering degree, and proficiency with SAP and RBI/RCM methodologies.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five years as Fixed Equipment Reliability Engineer.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience maintaining Mechanical Integrity programs.
  • Knowledge of reliability centered maintenance (RCM).
  • Experience with predictive technologies for fixed equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot equipment problems and perform root cause analysis; develop corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with production to identify reliability improvements and implement action plans.
  • Ensure inspection plans/strategies are in place and optimized.
  • Support Mechanical Integrity Specialists with repairs and installations.
  • Assist Project Engineering in equipment selection and project phases (Design to Start-up).
  • Review vessel/piping design calculations including re-rating of equipment.
  • Keep abreast of engineering advancements and maintain SAP usage for asset history.

The Fixed Equipment Reliability Engineer will establish reliability engineering principles and best work practices and lead major overhauls and repairs to critical Fixed Equipment.

TARGETED OUTCOMES
  • Performs reliability engineering evaluations and analyses related to equipment strategies (i.e. Preventive/Predictive tasks, Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), Remaining Useful Life, Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Works with production to identify key areas of equipment performance requests and improvement opportunities based on materials of construction evaluations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Troubleshoot equipment problems and conduct root cause failure analysis investigations on failed equipment, develop action plan to eliminate repeat failures, and implement corrective actions

  • Provide technical support to all Mechanical Integrity Specialists and Mechanical Integrity Inspectors as it relates to mechanical repairs, troubleshooting problems, and equipment installation issues
  • Provides technical support to the Project Engineering Department on the selection of mechanical equipment based on reliability improvements and industry best practices. Provides support through phases of projects: Design, Fabrication, Installation, Testing and Start-up.
  • Conducts and reviews vessel and piping design calculations; including re-rating of equipment (i.e. pressure vessels).
  • Demonstrates and stays abreast of developments and advancements in technology (i.e. engineering and inspection equipment and techniques).
  • Exhibits knowledge and use of SAP as an effective maintenance management tool for analyzing equipment information and history.

  • Team Members: Mechanical and Reliability Group
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as Fixed Equipment Reliability Engineer
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Job related experience maintaining the Mechanical Integrity program using the MI Software
  • Applied knowledge of reliability centered maintenance practices
  • Knowledge and understanding of predictive technologies for fixed equipment evaluations
  • Demonstrated use of SAP or other CMMS as an effective maintenance management tool for pulling equipment information and history
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Computer Systems: Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Visio); Enterprise Resource Planning (SAP); Reliability Software (Wiebul Analysis, RCM, Mechanical Integrity Software)
  • Critical thinking: use of logic, reasoning, and calculations to identify alternative solutions, conclusions, and approaches to solve equipment problems
  • ASME BP&V Code Knowledge: ASMBE B31.3 & API Codes for Tanks, Vessels, Exchangers & piping. API 510, API 570, API 571, API 579, API 580, API 653 (Certifications is an added advantage)
  • RBI Methodology to improve risk management results and reduce the risk of failures
  • RCFA Methodology to identify the casual factors for component, equipment or system failures
  • Corrosion Protection to control the corrosion of metal surfaces through materials selection and Cathodic Protection
  • Communication: ability to listen and understand information and ideas and to express thought and ideas clearly and concisely through oral and written communication
