Job summary

Sanford Health in Sioux Falls, SD, is seeking a part-time Release of Information Specialist to receive, evaluate, and coordinate requests coming by mail, fax, phone or in-person.

You will retrieve patient charts, prepare documentation for delivery, and ensure accuracy of scanned documents while maintaining confidentiality and proper invoicing. EPIC system experience is required, with flexible shifts to fit a 20-hour workweek.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred, Health Information Technology (HIT) degree preferred.
• General clerical experience preferred with some exposure to medical terminology. Previous experience in healthcare setting preferred. Word processing experience required, must be able to keyboard proficiently.
• Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Receive, evaluate, and coordinate release of information requests from all requestors submitted by mail, fax, phone, and/or in-person.
• Complete release of information requests including retrieving patient’s medical charts and returning charts, copying and/or scanning medical records accurately and correctly, and preparing documentation for delivery either electronically or by mail.
• Review the accuracy of scanned documents and perform quality checks on work to assure accuracy of the release, confidentiality, and proper invoicing.
• Maintain a record of all requests for information using the EPIC system and handle related clerical tasks.

Job Summary

Receive, evaluate, and coordinate release of information requests from all requestors submitted by mail, fax, phone, and/or in-person. Complete release of information requests including retrieving patient’s medical charts and returning charts, copying and/or scanning medical records accurately and correctly, and preparing documentation for delivery either electronically or by mail. Review the accuracy of scanned documents. Perform quality checks on work to assure accuracy of the release, confidentiality, and proper invoicing. Must have basic understanding of release of information workflows to ensure accurate and appropriate assignment of requests. Scan, copies, and distributes appropriate records and documents in a timely manner. Notifies supervisor of any record issues that may arise. Refer appropriate requests to internal and/or external review staff as needed. Maintain a record of all requests for information using the EPIC system. Complete cash handling tasks as assigned, which may include collecting credit card information, handling checks received by mail and posting payments. Accurately and efficiently utilize a computer for data input and retrieval of data. Receives, sorts, and distributes incoming mail for department. May perform other duties as assigned to support business needs.
