Job description

Maximus is seeking an experienced Release Manager to support a mission-critical federal program. This role leads release planning, governance, and deployment activities across a portfolio of applications and infrastructure environments. The ideal candidate brings strong experience in release and configuration management, software build and deployment, DevOps practices, and cross-functional coordination.

This role is on-site in Annapolis Junction, MD and requires an active Secret clearance.

Job-Specific Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Plan, schedule, and execute application releases, operating system patches, security updates, hardware upgrades, and other changes across mission-critical systems.

• Manage the release lifecycle, including version control, implementation and rollback planning, Go/No-Go reviews, deployment coverage, and post-deployment validation.

• Maintain deployment, implementation, and communication plans in accordance with configuration management and document control standards.

• Coordinate software builds, DevOps configuration changes, and deployments across development, test, staging, and production environments.

• Partner with Agile, DevSecOps, engineering, testing, operations, infrastructure, and third-party teams to align release schedules, dependencies, and resources.

• Facilitate TRB, CRB, CRQ, and OCCB meetings; prepare agendas, materials, decisions, and action items.

• Identify and mitigate risks, issues, conflicts, and resource constraints affecting release scope, schedule, quality, or stability.

• Provide timely release communications on schedules, readiness, status, outcomes, and required actions.

• Administer GitLab, including upgrades, patching, incident resolution, access, and account management.

• Track release activities, change requests, and deployment status in EWM and ServiceNow.

• Coordinate application testing, release validation, production readiness, and post-deployment verification.

• Improve release and configuration management processes, tools, documentation, and training.

Job-Specific Minimum Requirements:

• Active Secret clearance is required.

• Due to contract requirements, candidates must be U.S. citizens; candidates with dual citizenship cannot be considered.

• Minimum of 7 years of experience in release management, DevOps, configuration management, or a related technical role.

• Experience managing enterprise-level software builds, releases, and deployments across development, test, staging, and production environments.

• Experience with version control, configuration management, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile or DevSecOps methodologies.

• Strong communication, facilitation, organization, and cross functional coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent releases and priorities.

• Candidates must reside within a commutable distance for daily onsite work and on-call requirements.

• This contract supports systems that require 24x7x365 uptime. Candidates must be willing and able to meet recall requirements, including participation in a rotational on-call schedule.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

• Experience administering GitLab or supporting GitLab upgrades, patching, access, and account management.

• Experience with UrbanCode Deploy, Jazz Engineering Workflow Management (EWM), Remedy, or ServiceNow.
