Located in Houston, TX, Saber Power Services, LLC (SPS) is a nationally recognized full-service EPC company specializing in complex medium and high voltage electrical infrastructure across North America. Recognized as one of Houston Business Journal's Best Places to Work for two consecutive years, we seek a dedicated professional for our Relay Technician opening in Dallas/Fort Worth.

This role involves testing, commissioning, calibrating, and maintaining protective relays and related systems in substations, power plants, and industrial environments. The ideal candidate will have experience with electromechanical and microprocessor-based relays and familiarity with industry standards such as IEEE, NETA, and NFPA.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of protective relaying equipment, relaying schemes, DFR equipment, SCADA systems, distribution automation systems, and associated communication equipment.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues.
  • Conduct function testing of substation control circuits on relay panels, transformers, and circuit breaker changeouts.
  • Utilize Doble ProTesT software to verify carrier and fiber systems during relay testing.
  • Develop standard procedures for commissioning, testing, and maintenance of protective relaying and related systems.
  • Manage projects onsite, interfacing with customers and vendors effectively.
  • Perform electrical maintenance activities within plant environments as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
  • At least 3 years of hands-on relay testing and commissioning experience.
  • Strong knowledge of protection schemes for transmission, distribution, and generation.
  • Proficiency with relay test sets (e.g., Doble, Omicron, Manta).
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings and relay logic.
  • Familiarity with NETA standards and testing procedures.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug tests, background checks, and physical exams.
  • Willingness to travel and work overtime as needed.
Preferred:
  • NETA Level II, III, or IV Certification.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field.
  • Experience with relay software (e.g., SEL AcSELerator, GE Enervista, ABB PCM).
  • OSHA 10/30 and NFPA 70E training.
