Relationship Manager - Underwriting and Case Operations
We are launching a new lending and finance division within an established company. We are seeking a hands‑on, entrepreneurial Relationship Manager who will play a central role in building this division from the ground up.
This is not a typical relationship management role within a mature organization. The successful candidate will operate in a startup‑like environment, shaping operational processes, creating underwriting policies, managing client relationships, and personally handling all aspects of case management and decision‑making. You’ll serve as both the face of the division to clients and the engine that makes it run behind the scenes.
If the division succeeds, you will be instrumental in scaling the team, shaping its direction, and potentially stepping into a leadership role as the division grows.
Key Responsibilities
Client Relationship Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and partners from initial inquiry through case completion.
- Build and maintain strong relationships, providing clear communication and guidance throughout the financing process.
- Explain our financing products and ensure clients understand terms, timelines, and requirements.
- Represent the company with professionalism, empathy, and a solutions‑oriented approach.
- Conduct end‑to‑end underwriting on incoming applications, assessing eligibility, creditworthiness, and risk.
- Review and analyze financial documents, determine approval or denial, and document rationale according to emerging policy.
- Develop and help formalize underwriting policies and guidelines for the new division.
- Ensure each underwriting decision balances risk management with client and business goals.
Operational Case Management
- Manage all operational aspects of each case from application intake through document collection, underwriting, and funding setup.
- Track and drive each case to completion, ensuring speed, accuracy, and regulatory compliance.
- Build and refine workflows, checklists, and data tracking systems (CRM, loan‑processing tools, etc.) as infrastructure develops.
- Identify inefficiencies or bottlenecks and propose improvements.
- Contribute to the strategic setup of this new business unit including process design, policy creation, and best‑practice documentation.
- Collaborate with leadership to refine products, pricing, and client engagement models.
- Provide insights and reporting on trends, client needs, and operational metrics.
- Prepare the foundation for scaling, including recruiting, training, and structuring a future team as the division matures.
Qualifications & Skills
- 4+ years of professional experience in financial services, lending, or underwriting.
- Proven background in underwriting including credit or risk assessment, decision‑making, and documentation.
- Experience in client relationship management, ideally within a lending, financing, or service‑oriented environment.
- Strong operational skills: Ability to manage multiple cases, prioritize effectively, and maintain high attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High comfort level working independently, without established infrastructure or predefined policies.
- Entrepreneurial mindset: Resourceful, proactive, adaptable, and willing to build while doing.
- Proficiency with CRM or loan origination systems, as well as Excel or similar tools.
- Experience in launching or helping grow a new product, department, or startup initiative.
- Familiarity with consumer or case‑based financing (e.g., medical, legal, or professional services lending).
- Knowledge of compliance and documentation requirements in financial services.
- Analytical and data‑driven mindset, capable of using insights to improve process and performance.
What We Offer

- Competitive compensation with potential for growth as the division scales.
- A collaborative culture that rewards initiative, ownership, and results.
- The chance to help design the processes, systems, and team that will shape the future of this division.
