Job description

Company Description:

Coast Funding is the smarter alternative for established small and mid-sized business owners who need capital structured the right way. Our clients aren't desperate for funding — they have options. They choose Coast because of the quality of the relationship, the discipline of our underwriting, and our commitment to capital that grows alongside their business rather than burdening it. We were named a 2025 Best Place to Work in San Diego by the San Diego Business Journal. Our culture is fast-paced, collaborative, technology-forward, and data-driven. Our team is built around a simple idea: we are an advisory firm that funds businesses, not a sales floor that processes applications.

The Coast Difference is built on three principles:

  • Responsible. We guide every client toward the funding decision that actually fits their business — not the largest amount or the longest term that pays the most commission.
  • Renewable. We design programs that work as ongoing capital partnerships, not one-time transactions. 58% of clients use the program more than once.
  • Relationship. Every client works with a dedicated advisor who understands their operation and structures solutions for their specific use case.
The Role:

We are hiring a Relationship Manager to own an existing book of Coast clients — the established business owners who already trust us with their capital — and to be the reason they keep coming back. This is a consultative role with real ownership of your book. You will stay close to your clients as their businesses grow, understand what has changed since their last program, and be ready with the right next step when they need more capital. When a client is ready to renew or expand, you structure the solution that actually fits — the same responsible standard our advisors set on day one. Relationship Managers at Coast represent the brand on every call. The way you listen, the questions you ask, and the recommendations you make are how clients decide whether Coast stays their long‑term funding partner. We treat that responsibility seriously — and we hire people who do too.

Who Thrives Here:

The Relationship Managers who succeed at Coast share a specific profile. If the following sounds like you, we want to hear from you:

  • You treat the client relationship as a craft, not a transaction. You can describe the difference between pushing a renewal and earning one — and you prefer the second.
  • You take ownership of your numbers. When a client leaves, you can name what you did about it. When your book grows, you can describe what made it repeatable.
  • You build relationships, not deal counts. You understand that clients renew with people they like and trust, and you take the work of earning that trust seriously.
  • You are unrelentingly committed to getting better. The Coast mantra — those who stop being better, stop being good — describes how you already operate.
  • You think long‑term. You understand that a strong week of effort doesn't always produce a strong week of results, and you keep going anyway.
  • You bring a positive, professional presence to every conversation, regardless of what the previous one was like.
  • You want to be part of a team that wins together — not a lone wolf chasing personal commission. If you are looking for a high‑volume telesales seat, a get‑rich‑quick role, or a pure pitch‑and‑dial environment, this is not that role.
What You'll Do:
  • Own a defined book of existing Coast clients and manage each relationship across the full funding lifecycle.
  • Reach out ahead of renewals — not after — with proactive check‑ins to understand how each client's operations, cash flow, and capital needs have evolved.
  • Spot renewal and expansion opportunities and recommend the right Coast funding program — line of credit, working capital, term loan, equipment financing, receivables financing, the Swell program, or traditional partner programs like SBA — based on fit and use case.
  • Structure approvals that work for the client within each program's underwriting guidelines.
  • Manage your book in Salesforce CRM with the same discipline you bring to client conversations.
  • Grow a renewable book of business that compounds in value year over year.
  • Continuously improve your craft through coaching, peer learning, and self‑driven study.
What We're Looking For:
  • 2+ years in a quota‑carrying, phone‑based sales or account‑management role with documented results.
  • Track record of retaining and growing a book of accounts, or of meeting or exceeding quota.
  • Confidence holding a substantive conversation with a business owner — clear communication, real listening, professional presence.
  • Demonstrated ownership of past performance, both successes and recoveries.
  • A genuine appetite for feedback, coaching, and self‑improvement.
  • Comfort with technology, leveraging AI tools, Salesforce CRM, and a data‑driven sales environment.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States and ability to commit to full‑time, in‑office work in San Diego (this role is not remote).

Strongly preferred but not required: experience in financial services, business banking, fintech, or other consultative B2B sales or account management; multi‑year tenure at a prior role with documented book growth or client retention.

  • Competitive base plus performance‑based commission tied to client retention and book growth. First-year earning expectation for qualified professionals is $100,000 – $150,000.
  • Comprehensive health insurance, dental insurance, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Paid time off — weekends and holidays are yours.
  • Ongoing training and professional development.
  • A team that takes the work seriously and each other personally.
Logistics:

This is a 100% in‑office role in San Diego, California. No remote or hybrid arrangements. We hire people who want to be in the building because that is where the team builds together. Hiring process. A 15‑minute interview with our team, a sales aptitude assessment, and a final‑round conversation. We respect your time — the process is built to give you a real read on Coast quickly, and to give us a real read on you. Coast Funding is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All applicants are considered for employment without regard to race, religion, gender, age, nationality, sexual orientation, disability, or veteran status.

Helping Business Thrive. If that idea resonates with how you already approach your work, we'd like to talk.
