Job summary

One80 Intermediaries Inc. in the United States seeks an experienced Reinsurance Treaty Catastrophe Modeler to join our team.

You will analyze and model treaty structures, run catastrophe models, and support underwriting decisions. You should have a quantitative degree and at least five years in catastrophe modeling, with proficiency in Verisk Touchstone, Touchstone Re, RMS RiskLink, CoreLogic RQE, and SQL/R/Python.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's in a quantitative field (Actuarial Science, Math, Stats, Engineering).
  • 5+ years in catastrophe modeling within reinsurance.
  • Proficiency with major catastrophe modeling platforms (Verisk Touchstone, RMS RiskLink, CoreLogic RQE).
  • Strong grasp of reinsurance principles, treaty structures, and underwriting practices.
  • Statistical knowledge including distributions, return periods, EVT.
  • Experience with SQL, R, Python for data manipulation.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills; able to work independently or in a team.
  • Experience with stochastic tools (MetaRisk or ReMetrica) desired; scripting a plus.
  • Database management experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Treaty analysis and modeling of proportional, non-proportional, and retrocessional treaties.
  • Prepare and validate exposure data for catastrophe models.
  • Run models, interpret results, identify key risk drivers.
  • Contribute to portfolio risk assessments for underwriters and management.
  • Develop scenarios to assess event impacts and exposure changes.
  • Participate in model validation and development, parameterization, calibration.
  • Prepare clear reports and communicate findings to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with underwriters, actuaries and other departments.
  • Stay current on modeling techniques and emerging catastrophe risks.

You will participate in the reinsurance placement and renewal process and partner closely with the actuarial pricing team, providing crucial insights to support underwriting and management decision-making. This role requires a strong understanding of reinsurance principles, catastrophe modeling software, and statistical analysis.**How You Will Contribute:*** **Treaty Analysis:** Analyze and model complex reinsurance treaties (e.g., proportional, non-proportional, retrocessional) using industry-standard catastrophe models (e.g., Verisk Touchstone/Touchstone Re, RMS RiskLink, CoreLogic).* **Data Preparation & Validation:** Prepare, validate, and quality-assure exposure data for input into catastrophe models, ensuring accuracy and completeness.* **Model Execution & Interpretation:** Execute catastrophe models, interpret results (e.g., exceedance probability curves, average annual loss, return periods), and identify key risk drivers.* **Portfolio Management:** Contribute to the management of the reinsurance portfolio by providing risk assessments and insights to underwriters.* **Scenario Development:** Develop and analyze custom scenarios to assess potential impacts of specific events or changes in exposure.* **Model Validation & Development:** Participate in the validation and enhancement of catastrophe models, including model parameterization and calibration.* **Reporting & Communication:** Prepare clear and concise reports summarizing model results and communicate findings to underwriters, management, and other stakeholders.* **Collaboration:** Collaborate with underwriters, actuaries, and other departments to provide comprehensive risk assessments.* **Research & Development:** Stay abreast of industry trends, new modeling techniques, and emerging risks.
