Hoffman Steel Services - Reinforcing Ironworker Job Description


WORK DESCRIPTION:
Constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures associated with concrete steel reinforcing using Ironworker's hand tools and power tools while conforming to local building codes.

  1. Studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated and/or installed.
  2. Select specified grade/type of steel reinforcing or other materials.
  3. Prepare and follow layout using tape measure, squares, builders' levels & lasers as directed.
  4. Mark cutting and assembly lines on materials using pencil, keel, spray paint or approved others.
  5. Installs materials to designed measurements and location using approved bending methods, shears, chop saws and torch sets.
  6. Assembles cut and shaped steel reinforcing materials and fastens them together with tie wire, mechanical couplers, or welding when project specified.
  7. Installs pre-stressed and post tensioned cable systems when project specified.
  8. Actively participates in our Safety Program meetings and safety walks when requested.
  9. Be a voice in our Safety Culture during group safety discussions.
  10. Belong to local union hall.


ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
• Work is mainly outside thus exposed to various weather conditions.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS PHYSICAL:

  1. Able to pass Pre-Employment & Regular Drug Tests.
  2. Must be able to wear fall protection equipment and physically able to climb ladders and cranes.
  3. Standing/Walking - Constantly (66% to 100% a day).
  4. Bend (neck and back) - Constantly (66% to 100% a day).
  5. Use of hands for repetitive grasping - Constantly (66% to 100% a day).
  6. Use of hands for pushing & pulling - Frequently (33% to 66% a day).
  7. Use of hands for fine manipulation - Occasionally (less than 33% a day).
  8. Squatting & Kneeling - Frequently (33% to 66% a day).
  9. Climb (stairs & ladders) - Occasionally (less than 33% a day).
  10. Reaching Overhead - Occasionally (less than 33% a day).
  11. Lift Overhead - Occasionally (less than 33% a day).
  12. Knee Stand - Occasionally (less than 33% a day).
  13. Lift/Carry - at least 40 pound - Constantly (66% to 100% a day).
  14. Pushing & Pulling - Frequently (33% to 66% a day).

MENTAL:

  1. Constant mental alertness, accuracy, and attention to detail required.
  2. Must be able to work independently and as a team.
  3. Must be able to make decisions, and follow through on all assignments.
  4. Must use creativity, independent judgment, and organizational and problem solving skills to determine best method to accomplish desired results.
  5. Must be able to plan and organize work.
  6. Must possess strong mathematical skills, calculate proper dimensions of components, read blue prints, manuals, and communicate with coworkers.
  7. Must not be afraid of heights.
  8. Work in a safe manner in compliance with Hoffman's Safety Policy.
  9. Good attendance.
