Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: Provides high quality, comprehensive therapeutic direct and indirect care for the patient, which is supportive of the care given by the Physical/Occupational Therapy Department.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED equivalent. One-year experience with patients preferred. Two years college with classes in anatomy, exercise physiology or health and sports science preferred.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: CPR Certification.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Assists with patient care treatment under the supervision of a licensed physical or occupational therapist to meet the goals and needs of the patient.
• Provides appropriate patient care in accordance with age/developmental guidelines.
• Communicates in a professional manner with patients, physicians, and staff.
• Performs various administrative, inventory, and organizational duties to meet the needs of the department.
• Promotes professional growth and provides community education and/or committee representation.
• Maintains safe and clean treatment areas.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to communicate professionally with therapist and other health professionals.
• Ability to communicate with patients of all age groups.
• Experience with computer processing.
• Demonstrates courteous and respectful communication skills.
• Demonstrates flexibility with an ever-changing schedule.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Clean, well-lit comfortable climate, however, occasional conditions with high moisture content.
• Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances.
• Subject to many interruptions and occasionally handles emergency or crises situations.
• Possible exposure to infectious or contagious diseases and unpleasant patient elements.
• Frequent exposure to bloodborne pathogens and airborne pathogens.
• Subject to electro-mechanical hazards.
• Exposure to chemicals used in cleaning.
• Required personal protective equipment.
