The role requires strong communication, customer service, basic computer skills, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs; BLS certification within 6 months is required. Travel may be required in some cases.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate is required.
• BLS Certification must be obtained within 6 months unless not required by leader.
• Typically requires 1 year of experience in health care, public relations or health care education.
• Demonstrated customer service skills.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to engage people in a warm and positive way.
• Intermediate computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheet software, data entry and keyboarding.
• Must sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, kneel and reach above shoulders throughout the workday.
• Lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist; up to 10 lbs. waist to overhead; up to 40 lbs. at waist height; push/pull with 30 lbs.
• Perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
• Functional speech, hearing and sight.
• Ability to wear protective clothing as needed.
• Operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.
• Position may require travel.

Responsibilities

• Support the efficiency of Licensed Therapy Providers and the smooth functioning of the rehabilitation department.
• Perform direct patient contact activities under licensed provider supervision, including patient positioning, transfers, therapeutic modalities, routine exercises, exercise equipment startup, crutch walking and gait training
• Start patient treatments when patients are overlapped and use problem-solving strategies to improve therapist efficiency
• Communicate patient concerns, status changes and treatment responses to therapists
• Perform patient registration, scheduling, cashiering, admitting and follow-up
• Coordinate appointments with other departments or physician offices
• Answer phones, take messages, transfer calls, greet patients, register and schedule patients
• Perform billing, faxing, photocopying, medical-record assembly, and incoming-mail routing
• Review therapy orders in the electronic medical records system and route patients appropriately
• Maintain department files, binders, records and logs
• Process billing/reimbursement forms and department records
• Complete insurance verifications and authorizations; track reauthorizations
• Monitor the therapy environment for patient-experience standards
• Order, stock and organize therapy equipment and supplies
• Stock and dispose of linens; monitor office equipment and troubleshoot minor problems
• Clean and disinfect gym/treatment areas, equipment, tables, wheelchairs, walkers, pool and hydrotherapy unit
• Perform routine maintenance and safety checks and complete work orders
