Job summary

Sheppard Pratt in Towson, MD is seeking a part-time Direct Care Support Staff to join our crisis residential program. This on-site role provides one-on-one client support, helps maintain a safe, therapeutic environment, and assists with treatment plans and transportation to appointments.

You will work under supervision with a multidisciplinary team, ensure medication safety, and participate in community living skills development while supporting clients through recovery.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 1–2 years of relevant student, volunteer, or work experience.
  • Driver's license with 3 points or less and access to an insured vehicle.
  • Ability to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Acting as a residential counselor, work one-on-one with clients to learn or regain skills for successful community living and socialization.
  • Ensure medication safety, including responsibility for safety, dosage, and cleanliness.
  • Collaborate with a service team to develop and implement individual service plans.
  • Provide transportation and attend clients' medical appointments; advocate throughout appointments and document follow-up instructions.

Description

Schedule: PRN or As Needed| Job Location Type: In Person

Crisis Residential Program services provide short-term intensive, round-the-clock, personalized support to help stabilize someone having a mental health crisis so they can avoid hospitalization. Our teams collaborate with providers who are already involved in an individual’s treatment and works to link clients to other services offered by Sheppard Pratt or other community providers.

What to expect.

This is a direct care opportunity to provide support for mental health treatment. You will provide a safe and therapeutic environment that encourages the overall independence and wellbeing of your clients.

Under general supervision, your responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as a residential counselor as you work one-on-one with clients to learn or regain skills for successful community and independent living and socialization.
  • Ensuring medication compliance which involves responsibility for safety, dosage, and cleanliness.
  • Working as a part of a collaborative service team to develop and implement individual service plans.
  • Providing transportation and attending clients’ medical appointments. You will provide advocacy services throughout the appointment and ensure that all follow-up instruction is documented and/or followed through on.

As you spend time with your clients, you will find yourself developing a rapport with your clients where you become part of their trusted support system. You will see their wins as your wins as they work their way through the program and cheer them on as they progress in their recovery.

** All direct care staff will be thoroughly trained to provide all services and should expect supportive and ever-present mentorship from senior staff members as they perform the requested duties.

Pay for this position is determined on a number of factors, including but not limited to, years and level of related experience.

What we need from you.

  • Your high school diploma or a GED. Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
  • 1-2 years of relevant student, volunteer, or work experience.
  • The willingness to obtain additional certifications and trainings as required.
  • A driver’s license with 3-points or less and access to an insured vehicle.
  • Must have availability to workdays, nights, weekends, and holidays depending upon need of the program.

The rate for this position is $19.31 hourly.
