Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections seeks a Corrections Programs Supervisor (S) for Avery Mitchell Correctional Institution in Spruce Pine, NC. This full-time, 40-hour-per-week role focuses on supervising and delivering rehabilitation programs for offenders, including educational, vocational, religious, and counseling services.

You will report to the Programs Director I and collaborate with staff to manage resources and ensure safety while overseeing off-site programs as needed.

Qualifications

• Communicate effectively with staff, offenders, and public; written and verbal.
• Demonstrate crisis intervention and suicide prevention capabilities.
• Supervise subordinate staff and oversee correctional programs.

Responsibilities

• Communicate effectively with staff, offenders, and the public.
• Defend oneself and manage stressful conditions with incarcerated individuals.
• Conduct surveillance and ensure safety in the work area.
• Instruct offenders in safe use of tools and equipment.
• Review documents and behavioral data from interviews and observations.
• Perform crisis interventions and routine counseling including suicide prevention.
• Train and supervise subordinate staff in duties and responsibilities.
• Manage correctional programs and resources.
