Louisiana Orthopaedic Specialists is seeking a Rehabilitation Front Office Assistant to support scheduling, billing, and patient intake in a busy outpatient clinic.

You will communicate with patients, collect demographics and insurance data, handle payments, and coordinate with therapists to ensure timely care. The role requires attention to confidentiality and accurate documentation in EMR.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • One year of experience in outpatient rehabilitation preferred.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and EMR software.
  • Knowledge of phone systems and rehabilitation terminology and insurance rules.
  • Skill in effectively communicating with patients and staff and documenting work accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule patient appointments and confirm future visits; handle phone confirmations.
  • Explain visit costs and patient benefits to patients.
  • Collect patient payments and batch end-of-day totals.
  • Coordinate with rehabilitation staff/therapists for referrals and scheduling needs.
  • Verify patient demographics and insurance information; scan intake packets into EMR.
  • Assist Front Office Supervisor on special projects.
  • Answer department phone calls and check faxes.
  • Maintain goals for quality patient care and patient satisfaction.
  • Manage patient cancellations per protocol, including wait-list scheduling.
  • Assist in creating new patient charts and processing ABN/DME documents.
  • Schedule progress notes due and ensure confidentiality.

Requirements
EDUCATION:

High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Experience

One year of experience in out-patient rehabilitation preferred.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of phone systems.
  • Knowledge of rehabilitation terminology and insurance/payor rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of referral processes and patient eligibility
Skills
  • Skill in effectively communicating with patients and staff.
  • Skill in using a computer system/EMR.
  • Skill in accurate documentation of work.
Abilities
  • Ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, providers and staff.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in verbal and written form.
  • Ability to be a resource to patients and staff.

Environmental/Working Conditions

Normal office environment. Some travel within community.

Physical/Mental Demands

Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment. Some bending and stretching required. Manual dexterity using a calculator and computer keyboard. Ability to lift 25 lbs. Demands of occasional kneeling, squatting, and overhead lifting.
