Overview

The Rehabilitation Technician will transfer and transport patients and provide patient care under direct supervision of a clinician within the policies and procedures of both the Institute and the departmental program, and in accordance with Laws and Regulations of the State of Maryland. The incumbent will assist clinical staff in the provision of patient care programs and perform supportive tasks, including those serving the administrative, maintenance, and operational needs of the program. This position requires proficiency in at least one area of concentration which is meaningful and of value to the department.

Responsibilities

  1. Oversee one or more programmatic areas of concentration/responsibility.
  2. Prepare, maintain, and clean patient treatment areas before & after treatment sessions. Adhere to Kennedy Krieger Institute policies regarding patient & staff safety, hygiene, patient privacy, and precautions.
  3. Assist in practicing therapeutic exercises & functional activities programs under supervision of a Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, or COTA per Maryland law.
  4. Demonstrate application and removal of electrodes and orthotic devices, and proficiency with adaptive equipment and modalities. Inform clinicians of adverse effects.
  5. Greet, transport, and assist patients with hygiene and dressing needs.
  6. Remind and clarify appointment schedules for patients in conjunction with clinicians’ treatment plans and scheduling.
  7. Provide general program overview and conduct tours for new patients and families.
  8. Maintain program supplies, including ordering, inventory control, labeling, and storing supplies.
  9. Participate in maintenance, organization, care, cleaning, transport, tracking, scheduling, and safe storage of equipment. Report quality control issues such as broken equipment or hazards.
  10. Participate in meetings and committees related to regulatory review and performance improvement projects. Attend staff and training sessions.

Qualifications

  • Must possess and maintain certification from an accredited institution in Rehabilitation Therapy Aide.
  • Must possess and maintain CPR certification from the American Heart Association or Red Cross.

Education

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Associate’s degree preferred.
  • Enrollment in health occupation curriculum, certification, or academic program is preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Rehabilitation Aide, Technician, or comparable position required.
  • Experience working with or treating children or adults with developmental or acquired disabilities is preferred.
