Your Specific Responsibilities:

The Government Analyst I is a highly responsible and professional position located within the Bureau of Health Care Practitioner Regulation. This position is responsible for using professional judgement to provide information, guidance, direction, and assistance with health care licensure processes for highly complex applications. The employee in this position will perform professional and regulatory activities for the Board of Nursing which includes administrative duties or other regulatory related services. The employee exercises independent judgment and initiative in carrying out assignments to completion.

The individual in this position is expected to demonstrate the agency's fundamental values of innovation, collaboration, accountability, responsiveness and excellence and promote the Department's mission.

The incumbent will assist with the phone calls received by the Board of Nursing mini-call center, as directed by the Regulatory Supervisor/Consultant. Incumbent will answer calls professionally, minimizing dropped/transferred calls. Advise customer on appropriate actions/procedures and provide customers with requested information. Log all call interactions into Contact History field in LEIDS. Utilize contact history and email systems to maintain records and notify the proper processing unit regarding customer requests. The incumbent will take appropriate licensure action for callers when review by call agents indicates a licensure action is needed and document the action appropriately in the appropriate electronic system(s). Identify and properly **escalate** situations requiring urgent attention. Research required information using available resources, including LEIDS, Axiom Pro, NURSYS, and Pearson. Route calls to appropriate departments/units when necessary. Respond to Live Chat inquiries to assist applicants and licensees or route to the appropriate queue for assistance. Remain logged into the BON queue for the duration of the hours scheduled.

The employee responds to high level telephonic and email inquiries regarding licensure applications, renewal requirements, and continuing education standards. This work requires an in depth knowledge of the laws and rules governing the CNA, LPN, RN, and APRN professions and the ability to clearly communicate information. The employee demonstrates the ability to de escape irate callers and provide accurate guidance to applicants ranging from recent graduates to experienced out of state practitioners relocating to Florida. The employee also monitors the board’s shared “zzz” email inbox, sorting or forwarding emails if needed, and ensuring any others are responded to in accordance with required internal timeframes. Independently communicates with licensees and continuing education provider applicants to provide technical information related to continuing education requirements and licensure status.

The employee serves as the subject matter expert for complex licensure determinations, providing advanced analysis involving statutory interpretation, accreditation compliance, active practice evaluations, and non routine applicant scenarios. The employee exercises independent authority to approve or elevate licensure applications in accordance with Chapters 456 and 464, Florida Statutes, and applicable Board rules, and provides recommendations to leadership on complex regulatory matters.

The incumbent will be a member of the board’s training team. Training team members are responsible to the Deputy Executive Director for developing and maintaining training tools such as desk guides and PowerPoint presentations, participating in monthly training team meetings, and in the development of the annual training plan. This position is responsible for providing group training presentations and providing guidance to preceptors assigned to new staff.

Incumbent will be responsible for assisting with daily opening, processing, and directing incoming applications, mail and facsimiles to the proper processing unit within the same business day. Mail should be date-stamped, initialed, and logged if necessary. Responsible for completing transmittal forms for any applications and/or fees received daily, to ensure they are deposited and are made available for processing as quickly as possible. Incumbent will be responsible for stamping envelopes daily and folding/mailing letters for the board office as needed.

Incumbent will be the primary processor for Retired Volunteer Nurse applications. Processing each application requires verification that the nurse meets all statutory requirements to qualify for the certification, including holding an active license for at least 10 years, completing a Level II background screening, and that they have not committed a violation of the nurse practice act. The incumbent will also need to verify the applicant has provided all required supporting documentation, and if so, issue the approval letter to the practitioner and save a copy to their licensure file.

This is a fully on-site position based in Tallahassee. Employees are required to work from our Tallahassee office five days per week with no regular telework or remote option.
