Job summary

BCG Attorney Search in Lansing, Michigan, seeks a senior attorney with 10+ years of energy/regulatory experience to join its regulatory practice. You will represent utilities before the Michigan Public Service Commission and lead complex proceedings.

The ideal candidate has a track record in rate cases, tariff filings, and resource planning, with strong writing and advocacy skills, and is based in Michigan. JD required and bar admission preferred.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in energy, utility, and/or environmental regulatory law.
  • Substantial experience appearing before state public utility commissions, especially the Michigan PSC.
  • Experience with rate cases, cost recovery, tariffs, or related utility matters.
  • Familiarity with FERC proceedings is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to manage complex regulatory proceedings with minimal oversight.
  • Strong writing, advocacy, and client-counseling skills.
  • Admission to practice in Michigan, or eligibility for prompt admission.
  • Must be based in Michigan.

Responsibilities

  • Represent utilities, energy companies, and other regulated entities before the Michigan Public Service Commission and other state regulatory agencies.
  • Lead regulatory matters such as rate cases, cost recovery filings, tariff filings and amendments, rider proceedings, and integrated resource plans.
  • Advise clients on regulatory compliance, transaction approvals, cost allocation issues, and related regulatory strategy.
  • Draft and manage regulatory filings, including petitions, applications, comments, testimony, briefs, discovery, and responses to discovery.
  • Conduct and participate in hearings, including examination and cross-examination of witnesses.
  • Participate in settlement conferences and negotiate complex, multi-party regulatory settlements.
