Job summary

PowerLines seeks an attorney to support the Montana Public Service Commission in regulating essential industries and ensuring fair prices and reliable service for Montana customers. The attorney will draft and review orders, advise on contested cases, manage administrative dockets, and represent the Commission in litigation.

Qualifications

Excellent legal writing and oral advocacy skills.
Strong research abilities and ability to synthesize complex law.
Proficiency with digital tools and legal databases.
Knowledge of administrative/regulatory processes is preferred.

Responsibilities

Draft and review orders, notices, and staff memoranda.
Review briefs, case files, and transcripts.
Research laws and related authorities.
Advise the Commission on contested cases and investigations across jurisdictions.
Manage dockets, rulemakings, and public records responses.
Present staff recommendations at public meetings.
Occasionally travel to hearings to advise the presiding officer.
Prepare findings, conclusions, and proposed orders as hearing examiner.
Represent the Commission in litigation; draft motions and briefs.
