Job summary

The Maine Bureau of Financial Institutions, within the Department of Professional and Financial Regulation, seeks an Attorney to provide professional legal services under the Deputy Superintendent. The role focuses on advising on regulatory matters, consumer issues, and legislative interpretations, with occasional remote work based on agency needs.

Responsibilities include drafting legislation and interpretive bulletins, reviewing agreements, and supporting annual reporting.

Qualifications

• Law degree from an accredited law school.
• Preferred: Banking/credit union law and regulation, consumer lending, business law, and administrative law and rulemaking.

Responsibilities

• Counsels and advises the Superintendent and staff on legal matters pertaining to the Bureau's duties.
• Interpretation of Maine Banking Code, Maine Consumer Credit Code, Fair Debt Collection Act, and Fair Credit Reporting Act; coordinate with Office of the Attorney General.
• Monitor federal banking and credit union law developments and advise on impact; propose legal/regulatory changes.
