Position Responsibilities
Position Summary
The Department of Biological Sciences invites applications for a full-time, academic year, tenure-track Assistant Professor position. We seek a highly collaborative scientist to establish a productive, extramurally funded research program in genetics or genomics. The successful candidate will build upon existing departmental strengths and align with our strategic priorities.
Duties include teaching an average of 1.5 classes per academic year in the medical sciences curriculum or other programs to meet the teaching needs of the department; maintaining an active research program that includes securing external funding to support research activities in area of expertise; developing research collaborations across the college and university; mentoring undergraduate and graduate students; attending faculty meetings and departmental seminars; serving on department, college, and/or university committees.
The Department of Biological Sciences offers undergraduate (Biochemistry; Bioinformatics; Biology; Medical Sciences; Microbiology) and graduate (Biology; Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry ( MMBB ); Neuroscience) degrees. Faculty also participate in the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology interdisciplinary graduate program. The department hosts a supportive and collaborative community of researchers with internationally recognized strengths in evolutionary biology, microbiology, host–microbe interactions, genetics and genomics, cellular and molecular biology, ecology, and computational biology. Faculty benefit from numerous opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration within the department and across the university.
