Job summary

Schaefer Plastics, based in Charlotte, NC, is seeking a Regrind Lead to oversee daily regrind operations, ensure scrap material is safely processed, identified, stored, and available for reuse. You will work closely with material handlers and production teams to maintain material separation by type and color and keep the grinding area safe and compliant.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience in regrind, material handling, plastics manufacturing, or recycling.
• Previous lead or informal team leadership experience preferred.
• Ability to read labels, work instructions, safety information and complete basic written records.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
• Strong written and verbal communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and solve routine problems.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily regrind activities and assign work based on production priorities and available material.
• Provide day-to-day guidance and training to regrind operators, including completion of the company regrind training program.
• Ensure all containers of regrind material are correctly labeled and stored in proper locations.
• Maintain separation of materials by resin type, color, and other specifications to prevent contamination.
• Coordinate regrind usage with material handlers and production personnel according to procedures.
• Monitor regrind levels, material flow, and staging needs; communicate shortages or issues promptly.
• Verify grinding equipment and surrounding areas are cleaned daily and between color changes.
• Maintain clean grinding, waste, and staging areas per housekeeping and safety standards.
• Support troubleshooting of routine workflow and escalate concerns as appropriate.
• Complete required records and communicate shift status to the next shift and management.
• Answer calls and respond to material requests timely and professionally.
• Follow all safety procedures and proper PPE usage.

Position Summary:

The Regrind Lead coordinates daily regrind operations to ensure scrap material is safely processed, clearly identified, properly stored, and available for reuse. This position works closely with material handlers and production teams, provides day-to-day direction to regrind operators, and helps maintain accurate material separation by type and color. The Regrind Lead is also responsible for keeping the grinding and staging areas clean, organized, and compliant with established safety and quality requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily regrind activities and assign work based on production priorities and available material.
• Provide day-to-day guidance and training to regrind operators, including completion of the company regrind training program.

• Maintain separation of materials by resin type, color, and other applicable specifications to prevent contamination.
• Coordinate regrind usage with material handlers and production personnel according to established procedures and direction from management.
• Monitor regrind levels, material flow, and staging needs; communicate shortages, quality concerns, or processing issues promptly.
• Verify that grinding equipment and surrounding areas are cleaned daily and as needed between material or color changes.
• Maintain clean and organized grinding, waste, and staging areas in accordance with housekeeping and safety standards.
• Support troubleshooting of routine workflow or material issues and elevate equipment, quality, or safety concerns as appropriate.
• Complete required records and communicate shift status, priorities, and unresolved issues to the next shift and management.
• Answer calls and respond to material requests in a timely and professional manner.
• Follow all company safety procedures, including proper use of required personal protective equipment and safe operation of equipment.
• Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant manufacturing experience.
• Previous experience in regrind, material handling, plastics manufacturing, recycling, or a similar production environment preferred.
• Previous lead or informal team leadership experience preferred.
• Ability to successfully complete the company regrind training program.
• Ability to read labels, work instructions, short correspondence, and safety information and to complete basic written records.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to follow detailed but non-complex written and verbal instructions and solve routine problems in standardized situations.
• Ability to communicate clearly, work cooperatively across departments, and maintain a professional demeanor.

Physical Requirements

• Stand for more than two-thirds of the workday and walk for one-third to two-thirds of the workday.
• Frequently use hands to handle or feel materials and equipment, reach with hands and arms, and communicate with or hear others.
• Regularly stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and occasionally climb or balance.
• Regularly see and read labels, paper documents, and information displayed on computer screens.
• Lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally. Team assistance or mechanical lifting equipment must be used for heavier items.

This position works primarily in a manufacturing environment near operating equipment and material-handling activity. The noise level is typically loud, and required personal protective equipment must be worn. The employee may occasionally encounter dust or airborne particles and varying temperatures consistent with a manufacturing facility.
