Job Summary

The Department of Radiology at SUNY Downstate is seeking an hourly per-diem TH Staff Assistant II / Registrar, Scheduling & Billing. The successful candidate will:

  1. Schedule and reschedule imaging procedures using the Radiology Information System.
  2. Confirm appointments and provide instructions to patients.
  3. Collaborate with staff, nursing, physicians, and technicians to ensure workflow efficiency.
  4. Obtain insurance authorization, register patients, verify demographics, and review preference cards for accuracy.
  5. Interview patients to gather demographic and financial information for billing.
  6. Update billing, clinical, and other relevant information in the RIS.
  7. Ensure accurate data entry and prompt scheduling of modalities.
  8. Secure referrals and authorizations for insurance reimbursement.
  9. Reconcile schedules with daily reports.
  10. Verify referring physician documents and secure authorization numbers in the hospital information system.
  11. Arrange timely radiology appointments, selecting correct physicians and billing numbers.
  12. Burn CDs and scan requisitions into PACS as needed.
  13. Maintain good attendance and punctuality.
  14. Be flexible for holiday and emergency coverage as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • At least 2 years of experience with databases, registration, and information systems; general computer literacy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Over 2 years of experience in scheduling, patient registration, and insurance authorization.
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Hospital experience preferred.
