Registered Veterinary Technician, Surgery (LVT/RVT/CVT)

$27 – $29/hr based on experience; + $4.50/hr overnight differential (after 7pm). Location: Boulder, CO.

As Colorado Animal Specialty & Emergency (CASE) continues to grow and expand its surgical and specialty services, we are adding to our support team and seeking a Veterinary Surgery Technician to help ensure our surgical patients receive safe, effective anesthesia care and that our clinicians have the support they need to deliver exceptional patient outcomes.

Job Description

As a Veterinary Surgery Technician, you will provide skilled nursing care before, during, and after surgical procedures while ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the perioperative process. You will prepare surgical suites, maintain sterile technique, assist veterinarians with a wide range of procedures, monitor anesthesia, and support post‑operative recovery.

Responsibilities
Patient Care & Coordination
  • Create accurate patient estimates and treatment plans for surgical oncology cases.
  • Obtain comprehensive patient medical histories.
  • Oversee the admission and discharge of patients within the service.
  • Provide exceptional client communication and education.
  • Schedule appointments, surgeries, and advanced imaging for all departments.
  • Safely restrain patients during procedures.
  • Perform general venipuncture, peripheral catheter placement, and maintenance.
Surgical Preparation
  • Maintain aseptic surgical area preparation and ensure sterilization of supplies.
  • Assist doctors in maintaining OR sterility during procedures.
  • Identify and handle surgical instruments appropriately.
  • Obtain diagnostics, including bloodwork, radiographs, and other imaging related to consultations.
  • Handle and submit samples obtained during consultations or surgical procedures accurately.
Anesthesia‑Related Skills & Responsibilities
  • Conduct pre‑anesthesia examinations to assess safety and risk.
  • Implement prescribed anesthetic plans from pre‑surgery through recovery, ensuring effective patient monitoring.
  • Assess patient pain and develop multimodal analgesic plans.
  • Set up and troubleshoot anesthesia equipment, ensuring functionality.
  • Utilize CASE anesthesia monitoring forms and protocols effectively.
  • Monitor and manage anesthesia‑related complications, such as hypotension, using pulse oximetry and capnography.
Qualifications
  • Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) with at least 3 years of applicable experience.
  • Strong knowledge of basic veterinary practices, procedures, and terminology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision.
  • Exceptional multi‑tasking skills, maintaining high‑quality standards in patient care and decision‑making.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with CASE staff and team members.
  • Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required; fluency in multiple languages a plus.
