Job summary

Southern Rockies Animal Emergency & Specialty Hospital in Colorado Springs is seeking an ER Overnight RVT/LVT/CVT to triage and treat emergency cases. You will assist doctors with exams, procedures, and life-saving care during night shifts, while maintaining records and collaborating with the team.

The role requires strong communication, English fluency, and experience with venipuncture, anesthesia, radiography, and lab work.

Qualifications

• RVT/LVT/CVT preferred.
• Emergency triage and patient assessment experience required.
• Proficiency in venipuncture, restraint, medication administration, and sample collection.
• Experience with radiography and laboratory procedures.
• Anesthesia and sedation monitoring experience preferred.
• Fluent English speaking and reading required.
• Strong communication and client service skills.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced emergency environment.

Responsibilities

• Triage ER patients and provide lifesaving care as directed by ER doctor.
• Gather history, vitals, and relay updates to physicians.
• Assist DVMs with exams, treatments, and procedures.
• Respond to STAT calls and follow care protocols.
• Restrain patients, perform venipuncture, SQ fluids, radiographs, meds.
• Perform sedation and anesthesia per hospital protocols.
• Maintain paperless medical records with Instinct.
• Collaborate across departments to ensure high-quality care.

Job Description

As an ER/ICU Technician, your primary responsibility is to triage patients as they present to the Emergency Room according to triage levels. Assess pets and provide immediate lifesaving care under the direction of the ER doctor as required for critical patients. Provides history, vitals, and concerns to doctors to assist in the timely and appropriate management of emergency patients. Works well with other technical staff and assistants to perform diagnostics, execute treatment plan and/or hospitalize the patient. Communicates medical updates, financials, and treatment plans to owners.

Responsibilities

• Provides excellent patient care to every patient
• Triage patients as they come into the ER with appropriate medical decision making and escalation to ER doctor as appropriate.
• Obtaining history and vital signs of the pet
• Assist DVM’s with exams, treatments and procedures
• Immediately respond to STAT calls and follow the appropriate patient care protocols
• Perform standard technician duties including patient restraint, venipuncture, SQ Fluids, radiographs, medication administration as ordered by a Veterinarian, obtain and process laboratory samples, handle and dispense medications by veterinarian orders
• Perform sedation and anesthesia according to established hospital protocols (induction, maintenance, monitoring and recovery).
• Maintain accurate paperless medical records utilizing Instinct
• Demonstrate working knowledge of financial and charging practices including creating estimates and discussing with the owners, collecting payment and discharging patients.
• Collaborate with all departments across the hospital to ensure that all patients are receiving the best possible patient care
• Demonstrate compassion and care in all interactions
• Attend department and staff meetings
• Contribute to the overall needs, cleanliness and organization of the hospital.
• Other duties as needed.

Qualifications

• RVT/LVT/CVT preferred required.
• Strong understanding of emergency triage and patient assessment.

• Experience with radiography and laboratory procedures
• Anesthesia and sedation monitoring experience preferred.
• Ability to recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.
