Job summary

Torrey Pines Animal Hospital in Carmel Valley, San Diego, seeks a credentialed Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) for a full-time role at $35/hour. You’ll work four 10-hour shifts weekly, collaborating with doctors and staff to deliver high-quality veterinary care.

You’ll place IV catheters, monitor anesthesia, run radiographs, perform dental cleanings, and assist with in-house lab work while educating clients and advocating for patients.

Qualifications

• Credentialed RVT with anesthesia and surgical nursing experience.
• Independent, capable of working with doctors and staff.
• Strong pharmacology knowledge and technical skills.

Responsibilities

• Place IV catheters and draw blood as needed.
• Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia for procedures.
• Assist with surgical and dental procedures alongside doctors.
• Take diagnostic and dental radiographs.
• Perform dental cleanings and cytology prep.
• Operate in-house lab equipment and calculate meds.
• Care for hospitalized patients and ensure smooth workflow.
• Educate clients and advocate for patients.

We’re looking for an experienced RVT to join our team at $35/hour and work alongside doctors and support staff who recognize that great veterinary medicine simply doesn’t happen without great technicians.

This Isn't a "Hold This Dog" Technician Position

Our RVTs are an integral part of our medical team. We want you using the skills you worked hard to learn.

Depending on the day, you may be:

• Placing IV catheters and drawing blood
• Inducing, monitoring, and recovering anesthesia
• Running surgical and dental procedures alongside our doctors
• Taking diagnostic and dental radiographs
• Performing dental cleanings
• Preparing and evaluating ear, skin, and fecal cytology
• Running our in-house laboratory equipment
• Calculating and administering medications
• Caring for hospitalized and recovering patients
• Using low-stress, thoughtful restraint techniques
• Keeping surgical cases organized and moving safely
• Educating clients and advocating for your patients
• Helping keep treatment and exam-room flow moving efficiently
• Catching the little details before they become big ones

And yes — sometimes you'll still clean up poop. It is veterinary medicine, after all.

The Schedule

This is a full-time position working four 10-hour shifts per week.

Some flexibility for weekends and holidays is appreciated because, unfortunately, our patients have yet to learn how to schedule their illnesses exclusively Monday through Friday.
