Job summary

Carilion Clinic in Roanoke seeks a Registered Respiratory Transport Therapist for flexible/PRN shifts to provide respiratory care in critical care and transport settings. You will collaborate with transport teams, perform advanced procedures, and support patient education and safety across hospital and transport operations.

The role requires Virginia-licensed respiratory care practitioner credentials (RRT NBRC), BLS-HCP, PALS, and NRP certifications, with focus on rapid assessment and teamwork

How You'll Help Transform Healthcare:

The Transport Respiratory Therapist provides respiratory care in critical care and transport settings, collaborates with transport teams, and supports patient care and education.

The Transport Respiratory Therapist

Performs basic and advanced therapeutic, diagnostic and life support respiratory care procedures in general, critical care and transport patient care areas. Collaborates with other transport team members and referral facilities. Provides excellent customer service and assists with family and staff education.

Collaborates with other transport team members to ensure the safety of all transport operations. Provides rapid assessment, emergency measures and transportation for the critically ill/injured patient, utilizing the latest techniques and state of the art equipment. Uses an advanced level of communication skills.

Applies knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients served- Performs various therapeutic, life support, diagnostic procedures and patient family education. Evaluates patients for the appropriateness and effectiveness of ordered therapy and communicates suggested alternatives to physician. Performs facility specific support functions.

Organizes, prioritizes and evaluates patient care delivered by various levels of staff both in hospital and on transport. Participates in providing outreach education. Acts as resource to other patient support staff.

Actively participates in performance improvement program by collecting and analyzing data to obtain desired outcomes.

Performs cleaning, preventative maintenance and operational verification of equipment. Recognizes equipment malfunction and takes appropriate action- Monitors safety practices in the work environment and reports areas of concern.

Assists patient, family and referring facility in completing the electronic satisfaction surveys or provides a paper format of the survey. Assists Outreach Department on transport follow-up during down-time.

What We Require:

• Education: Graduate of a CoARC-accredited respiratory therapist program.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of critical care NICU or Pediatric ICU experience required.
• Licensure/Certifications/Registration: Licensed by the Virginia Board of Medicine as a Respiratory Care Practitioner required. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications required.
• Other Minimum Qualifications: Must possess exceptional interpersonal skills and high tolerance for stress. Must be self-motivated. For Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, must possess ability to appropriately handle/restrain patients who may be disruptive and/or physically violent.

Compensation Range:

$33.52 - $50.28 Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
