The Transport Respiratory Therapist at Carilion Medical Center Roanoke provides respiratory care in critical care and transport settings, collaborating with transport teams to support patient care.

This role requires a graduate of a CoARC-accredited program, Virginia licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner, NBRC-registered RRT, and BLS-HCP, PALS, NRP certifications; 3 years of NICU/PICU experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a CoARC-accredited respiratory therapist program.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years in critical care NICU or Pediatric ICU.
• Licensure: Virginia Respiratory Care Practitioner, NBRC RRT credential, BLS-HCP, PALS, NRP.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic and advanced respiratory care procedures; collaborates with transport teams and educates families and staff.
• Collaborates to ensure safe transport operations; provides rapid assessment and emergency transport for critically ill patients.
• Applies knowledge of development to care for patients; evaluates therapy and communicates alternatives to physician.
• Organizes and evaluates patient care; participates in outreach education and acts as resource to staff.
• Participates in performance improvement by collecting and analyzing data.
• Performs equipment maintenance and safety checks; monitors for malfunctions and safety concerns.
• Assists with surveys and transport follow-up with referring facilities.

How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare:

The Transport Respiratory Therapist provides respiratory care in critical care and transport settings, collaborates with transport teams, and supports patient care and education.

• Performs basic and advanced therapeutic, diagnostic and life support respiratory care procedures in general, critical care and transport patient care areas. Collaborates with other transport team members and referral facilities. Provides excellent customer service and assists with family and staff education.

• Collaborates with other transport team members to ensure the safety of all transport operations. Provides rapid assessment, emergency measures and transportation for the critically ill/injured patient, utilizing the latest techniques and state of the art equipment. Uses an advanced level of communication skills.

• Applies knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients served- Performs various therapeutic, life support, diagnostic procedures and patient family education. Evaluates patients for the appropriateness and effectiveness of ordered therapy and communicates suggested alternatives to physician. Performs facility specific support functions.

• Organizes, prioritizes and evaluates patient care delivered by various levels of staff both in hospital and on transport. Participates in providing outreach education. Acts as resource to other patient support staff.

• Actively participates in performance improvement program by collecting and analyzing data to obtain desired outcomes.

• Performs cleaning, preventative maintenance and operational verification of equipment. Recognizes equipment malfunction and takes appropriate action- Monitors safety practices in the work environment and reports areas of concern.

• Assists patient, family and referring facility in completing the electronic satisfaction surveys or provides a paper format of the survey. Assists Outreach Department on transport follow-up during down-time.

What We Require:

Education: Graduate of a CoARC-accredited respiratory therapist program.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years of critical care NICU or Pediatric ICU experience required.

Licensure/Certifications/Registration: Licensed by the Virginia Board of Medicine as a Respiratory Care Practitioner required. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications required.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Must possess exceptional interpersonal skills and high tolerance for stress. Must be self-motivated. For Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, must possess ability to appropriately handle/restrain patients who may be disruptive and/or physically violent.

Compensation Range:

$33.52 - $50.28

Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
