Administers all forms of respiratory care, both critical and general therapy, and directs and manages the respiratory and pulmonary care for a designated group of patients. Provides respiratory assessment, support, treatment, and diagnostic tests as part of the healthcare team. Job Duties include conducting evaluation, management and care of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system; performing inventory of respiratory equipment and maintaining adequate stock; providing respiratory therapy to patients as ordered by physicians; training other staff including physicians and students; performing mechanical ventilator management, Bi-pap, and respiratory monitoring; performing emergency cardiopulmonary resuscitation and maintaining adequate airways; performing arterial blood gas studies and pulse oximetry; educating patients on clinical situations such as sleep apnea and CPAP machines; setting-up diagnostic nocturnal sleep screens; administering respiratory medication for aerosol treatment as ordered by physicians or patient-driven protocols and charting treatment, response, and progress. Minimum qualifications include Associate’s Degree Graduate from an RRT program accredited by the commission of accreditation for Respiratory Care, less than 1 year experience, ability to provide respiratory therapy methodologies and techniques, ability to operate and troubleshoot diagnostic equipment, and various certifications including RRT, ACLS, BLS, PALS, NRP, and RCP within specified time frames. Preferred qualification is a Bachelor’s Degree Graduate from an RRT program. Physical demands include lifting and carrying 40-50 lbs, frequent standing/walking, and performing activities such as kneeling, bending, squatting, and CPR. The position is onsite at Lehigh Valley Hospital- Cedar Crest, night shift from 1845-0715.
