Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist assists patients experiencing difficulty breathing by teaching them to use various equipment and techniques to facilitate clearer and more efficient breathing.

Responsibilities
  1. Demonstrate proper utilization of respiratory equipment such as nasal cannulas, venti masks, USN, non-Rebreather masks, and pulse oximetry.
  2. Perform medication and medical gas administration, including the use of metered dose inhalers, peak flow meters, Oxygen, Heliox, Nitric Oxide, and assess ongoing patient needs.
  3. Competently perform ETT placement, airway securing, and suctioning (including closed and sterile open system techniques).
  4. Set up and manage ventilator, BiPAP, and CPAP equipment.
  5. Evaluate, analyze, and interpret data from diagnostic and physiologic tests.
  6. Conduct bedside testing for weaning, including spirometry, End Tidal CO2, and Peak Flow measurements.
  7. Accurately document using electronic medical records and manage order sets.
Qualifications
  • NY State RRT license with an Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy; Bachelor's preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in adult or pediatric respiratory therapy.
  • BCLS, PALS, and NRP certifications required.
  • Comfort working with pediatric and neonatal populations.
