Role Overview

The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is responsible for delivering standard and advanced respiratory care procedures for patients with cardiopulmonary disorders and performing other examinations and procedures as directed. The role models appropriate behavior aligned with the MLH Mission, Vision, and Values.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Perform routine respiratory therapy procedures such as IPPB, O2 therapy, and humidity/aerosol therapy.
  2. Establish and maintain ventilation and airway care, provide ventilatory support, and perform advanced techniques including invasive pressure monitoring and administration of gases like Nitric Oxide.
  3. Conduct patient assessments and reassessments, document findings, and make referrals as needed.
  4. Provide education and serve as a technical resource to patients, families, physicians, students, and staff.
  5. Recognize safety factors, perform routine maintenance on equipment, and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Technical Degree or Diploma in Respiratory Care or Associate's Degree in Respiratory Care.

  • Certifications: BLS, NRP, PALS, and state-specific RRT licensure.
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to read and prepare moderately complex written materials.

Physical and Other Demands
  • Patient contact, potential exposure to body fluids, quick reaction in emergencies.
