Job summary

IU Health in Fort Wayne, IN is seeking a Pediatric Respiratory Therapist to perform pulmonary function testing and provide respiratory education in the Pediatric Pulmonary Clinic and Cystic Fibrosis Center.

You will work Monday-Friday, with travel to South Bend twice a month, supporting CF Clinic operations and airway clearance therapies. A state license and RPFT credential are required, with ongoing certifications encouraged.

Qualifications

• Requires current Indiana Respiratory Care Practitioner license.
• Requires graduation from a CoARC-accredited respiratory care program.
• NBRC registry exam completed within 6 months of hire.
• RPFT credential required within two years of hire.
• Healthcare Provider Certification; ACLS/PALS/NRP may be required per unit.
• ACLS/PALS/NRP preferred.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to handle confidential patient information.
• Basic computer skills and EMR proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Perform pulmonary function testing, including spirometry, for pediatric patients.
• Provide respiratory education to patients and families regarding pulmonary conditions, medications, equipment, and treatment plans.
• Serve as an Airway Clearance Specialist within the CF Center and pulmonary clinic.
• Must be willing to travel to South Bend twice per month to support CF Clinic operations.

About This Position

The Pediatric Pulmonary Respiratory Therapist will provide pulmonary function testing (PFT) services, respiratory education, and airway clearance support for patients served through the Pediatric Pulmonary Clinic and Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Center.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform pulmonary function testing, including spirometry and other diagnostic procedures, for pediatric patients.
• Provide respiratory education to patients and families regarding pulmonary conditions, medications, equipment, and treatment plans.
• Serve as an Airway Clearance Specialist within the Cystic Fibrosis Center and pulmonary clinic.
• Must be willing and able to travel to South Bend twice per month to support Cystic Fibrosis Clinic operations.

Requirements

• Requires current license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner from the state of Indiana.
• Requires graduation from a CoARC (Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) and regionally accredited respiratory care program.
• Requires that the N.B.R.C. (National Board for Respiratory Care) registry exam be passed within 6 months of hire date. The 6-month requirement for the RRT is void if hire date is one year past graduation date.
• Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) credential required within two (2) years of hire.
• Requires Healthcare Provider Certification. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
• Preferred ACLS; PALS; and/or NRP certification.
• Requires strong customer service skills.
• Requires effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Requires the ability to deal with confidential patient information.
• Requires basic computer skills and ability to work with EMR.
