Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

A caregiver in this position works PRN, either 3:00pm-11:00pm or 7:00pm-7:30am.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

1. Provide assessment, treatment, care and evaluation to patients with respiratory insufficiencies.
2. Direct respiratory caregivers for delivery of care.
3. Implement and monitor patient care plans.
4. Assess patients for the appropriate type and frequency of treatment and develop, implement and monitor patient care plans.
5. Monitor, record and communicate patients' conditions.
6. Perform advanced respiratory care modalities, evaluate respiratory practice, administer medications and treatments, and perform blood gas puncture and analysis.
7. Educate patients and families about the illness and provide information about community support groups and other programs.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

1. Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
2. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
3. Ohio Respiratory Care Professional (RCP) Board Licensure.
4. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

1. Prior experience in critical care.
2. Bachelor's degree.
3. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Neonatal Pediatric Specialist (NPS) certification.

Physical Requirements:

1. Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
2. Normal hearing and vision or corrected to normal range.
3. May require sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time.
